Overview of what we offer

The Burren Yoga and Meditation Centre is a small Ecotourism family business which has been running yoga holiday retreat packages since 1999.

The ethos of the centre is to provide the best quality yoga and meditation teaching within a responsible holiday retreat package to The Burren where we spend time in Nature and the whole package follows the principles conservation of the environment.

The small number of people on courses and the care and raising awareness of our visitors, is an ideal way to ensure long term sustainable tourism in this unique protected natural landscape on the west coast of Ireland.

We offer weekend and week long residential yoga and meditation courses all year round.

We only have 15 people maximum on each course, so everyone gets very good individual attention.

We also offer evening yoga classes for local people from September to May.

Yoga for all levels, all ages

We offer courses in over 9 different types of yoga ranging from very gentle yoga to extremely strong and dynamic yoga.

So it is important to choose the right weekend or right week long course that is appropriate for your age, level of fitness, whether you have practiced yoga before, and also whether you are more interested in fitness, relaxation or some other goal.

Calendar of week long and weekends coming up

All our courses begin on Friday evening with dinner at 7:00 pm.

It's possible to book onto a weekend only of a week long retreat if you wish... or you can book on until Monday, Tuesday ... or until the end of the course on Thursday at midday.

Accommodation and prices

In general there are two types of courses; Weekend only courses and week long courses.

Weekend only courses (September to May) cost €300 and week long courses (June to early September, also Christmas New Year and Easter) cost €690 and include accommodation sharing with others.

If you wish to book a weekend on a week long course the price is €340.

If you would like a single room, it costs €60 extra on a weekend only course, and €120 on a week long course or for part of the week long course.

Outdoor activities

A very important part of all the yoga courses at the Burren Yoga and Meditation Centre is that you are 'looked after' during the day if you wish, and we have organized outdoor activities that the group as whole take part in.

If you prefer to miss any of the classes, activities or meals and prefer to take time out on your own, that is also your choice.

Most people come here on their own, and the outdoor activities are great way to get to know each other and also to explore this very special part of the Ireland known as the Burren.

Meditation as well as yoga classes

Many people don't realize that meditation has been the cornerstone or central practice of yoga for over 5,000 years.

Unfortunately over the past 100 years, many yoga schools in the west have overlooked this very important aspect of 'training the mind' and some schools of yoga have degenerated into mainly fitness classes.

We try to include an introduction to meditation on all our yoga courses, and all our yoga teachers are highly qualified and live the 'life of yoga' as well as being excellent teachers.

There is a team of 14 yoga teachers who have been teaching many years at Burren Yoga, and your whole experience at the centre is one of quality, relaxation, rejuvenation and fun.

What type of people come

90% of people come on their own

Sometimes we have two friends, or a couple or mother and daughter and occasionally we may get 3 or more friends coming together.

Because most people come on their own, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly, and we all go out on the outings together so it very easy to get to know the others on the course.

We have all ages from 14 to 70 years old, all levels of fitness from complete beginners who may be very unfit or overweight to regular practitioners of yoga.
