Aran Islands & Lough Bunny

A very special land

Yoga is not all relaxing, lying back and stretching a little.

It sometimes involves serious streneous effort. So its good to take some time off to visit some sights of the Burren and the coastline.
On this 7 day course in 2002, we took the ferry from Dolin over to the Inish More the larger of the Aran Islands. The ferry journey was about 40 minutes.

The view of the beach as we arrived was very welcoming and we could see a couple of old ruins on top of the hill.

The fields on the Aran Isalnds are tiny, with stone walls criss crossing and running in all directions.

We climbed up to the old ruin and wondered who lives on the Islands hundreds of years ago.

There are practically no cars on the Island and the tourists use either horse and cart and hire out bicycles to get around.

Most of the group were Irish on this particular course and we had one Italian man, one German girl, an American woman and Veronique who was teaching is French.

A couple of the women went off to explore on their own and we found them later having a cup of tea outside one of the places which produces hand knitted Aran jumpers.

And not a pint of guinness to be seen on the table ;-)

Hmmmmm ... i wonder where the rest of the group is ?

Later that week we went to the local lake near the Burren Yoga and Meditation Centre called Lough Bunny.

The Burren hills as a backdrop, and the peace and silence of the area (we were the only people at the lake as usual) makes this a real haven of tranquility.

The sun had been shing down on the lake for the previous week and the water was very warm.

Veronique was enjoying the holiday as much as everyone else on the course.

Deep conversations on the meaning of the universe no doubt.

Some of the group took the opportunity to just chill out while the rest of us were swimming.

And Daisy took the time to write a short verse or two.

Anja seemed quite at home amongst the lush greenery of Ireland.

Sitting outside the yoga centre in the patio area is a great place for the girls to have a chat and some laughs.

and not one photo of Paddi's food.....

Hmmmmm .
