Yoga Courses for complete beginners
When you are taking up yoga for the first time, it is very important that you go to a fully trained teacher who has a large number of years experience practicing yoga and also teaching yoga.
We have a very high standard of teachers who teach at the Burren Yoga and Meditation Centre, who ensure that you receive correct instruction and that you are practcing correctly in order to continue yourself when you go back home.
We will also help you locate a good yoga teacher in your local area so that you can continue to attend good quality weekly yoga classes.
Most of our courses are quite suitable for beginners. However, some courses are reasonably
gentle while others can be
very strong.
Although you may be a beginner, you probably have a preference for either a very gentle form of yoga, or a form which is quite energetic and dynamic.
Some courses are reasonably gentle and suitable for
all ages, whether fit or un-fit. (These would be the Satyananda, Hatha, Kundalini or Gentle yoga & Detox courses).
Other courses are more energetic but also suitable for beginners, but do require a reasonable level of fitness. These would be Ashtanga or Bikram.
Type of people who come on the coursesWhen you click on any of the courses to view more information, you will see a section "Who the course is suitable for". Each course will state if it is suitable for beginners.

What is Yoga?If you would like to find out which courses would be most suitable for a beginner, please consider the following;
Types of yoga listed in order of most gentle first, and more stronger towards end
- Satyananda is a more traditional form of yoga and includes breathwork, more gentle postures, deep relaxation and meditation. Nice and relaxing, ideal for beginners.
- Hatha Yoga is reasonably gentle and involves stretching, breathork and expect to be challenged within your own limitations. Ideal for beginners
- Kundalini is also gentle and includes walking meditations, gentle postures and working with energies inside. Suitable for beginers.
- Iyengar is another physical form of yoga and is quite precise in its alignment within postures and uses blocks and belts to help open up more in the postures. Not as strong as ashtanga.
- Bikram is a fitness form of yoga which takes place in a heated room, so involves plenty of sweating and is very dynamic. Expect lots and lots of sweating and movement.
- Ashtanga is very strong and dynamic and is a flowing sequence of sun salutations and postures. Please expect some sweating due to strong physical exertion.
On the Detox courses we teach gentle Satyananda yoga classes, and these weekends are also ideal for beginners.
