Course description
Sivananda Weekend Retreat with Aisling Battersby.
This course is based on the five main points of yoga, which is based on the eight limbs and incorporates
- breathing techniques (Pranayama)
- Chanting
- Meditation
- Relaxation
- yoga postures (Asanas)
It caters for people that have been doing yoga at anything up to intermediate level. The teacher will explain all aspects of the course in detail, as they come up.

What is Sivananda Yoga?
"Serve, love, give, purify, meditate, realise" - Swami Sivananda.
Yoga was a way of daily life for this amazing guru.
The emphasis of his teaching was on the five main points of yoga (based on the eight limbs). These five points are:
- Proper Exercise - Asanas or postures
- Proper Breathing - Pranayama (Breathing - Kapalavati and Anna Loma villoma techniques)
- Proper Relaxation - Savasana
- Proper Diet – Healthy Vegetarian food
- Positive thinking and Meditation - Vedanta and Dhyana
Each of these points are emphasised throughout the classes and during the weekend the student will do Pranayama, Savasana, Asana and meditation. There will also be healthy vegetarian food for all meals.
About the teacher:
Aisling studied Hatha Yoga with Nollaig Carroll for four years before proceeding to India. Here she qualified as a teacher in Sivananda Yoga studying from Swami Govinda and Sundar.
Aisling is now running a yoga centre in Galway called "An Seomra Yoga". Here she teaches Sivananda yoga.
"An Seomra yoga" also has other teachers teaching Iyengar and Ashtanga. Aisling also teaches yoga to single mothers one morning a week, HIV victims and a head injuries group.
As well as teaching Yoga, Aisling has also qualified in Sports Therapy, Swedish massage, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, Reiki, Coaching, Life Guarding, Gym Instruction, Circuit Training and Diet and Nutrition.
Food for the weekend:
The food for the weekend will be healthy, vegetarian food. For each meal there will be a selection of several dishes to accommodate for everyone’s needs and tastes. Vegan food will also be available, please inform before arrival.
Yoga Nidra is a tantric technique that Swami Satyananda brought to the western world and is used for relaxation and releasing inner tensions Chanting classes: you will be taught several different Sivananda Chants that are well known in the ashrams around the Himalayas
