Guidelines for your stay
This information lets you know several important aspects to ensure the smooth running of the centre and also an enjoyable, peaceful and safe stay for everyone.
Welcome
Firstly welcome to the Burren Yoga and Meditation Centre and we hope that you enjoy your stay. If we can do anything to help improve your experience here, please let us know.
Suggestions or special requests welcome
If there is something which occurs to you that the group may like, or you think of something which may improve the course or activities, then we would be very happy to hear your suggestions.
Find something broken or needs to be improved?
Let us know if you see something broken so that we can either repair or replace it.
Please be punctual
We fit a lot into our courses, so we ask you to be punctual for all classes to help ensure smooth running of the course.
Let us know if you need time out
If you need to take time out to yourself, or you are feeling sick, please let the course instructor or Dave or Mel know. All classes and activities are optional so it’s not a problem if you prefer not to go on any of the activities. Just let us know so that we are not waiting or worried if we can’t find you.
No shoes indoors
We don't wear shoes inside either of the two buildings. Only socks or bare feet indoors. It is ok to wear soft woollen slippers but please do not wear flip flops or rubber soled sandals.
Cleanliness of Bedding
Duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases should be used at all times. This includes pillowcases on extra pillows you may use. Please do not remove any of the pillows or duvets from the bedrooms.
Fire Safety
Please familiarise yourself with the exit routes from your bedroom by both door and window. And please read the fire safety notice in your bedroom.
Fire prevention
We do not light candles or have any naked flames or incense anywhere in the centre. One exception is candles for dinner on the table in kitchen. Please do not leave your bed-reading-light on when you leave the room as these can get quite hot.
Velux windows and rain
The velux windows upstairs let in rain if left open. If you open a window, please close it when you leave the room. It’s possible to close these windows and still leave a flap open for ventilation.
Other windows
Please do not leave windows open wide enough for a cat to come in.
Security
Please lock doors and windows if you are leaving the building unattended. Valuables can be left in the office.
Silence at night
After 11:00 PM or a specified time on a course, complete silence should be maintained. If you go out to the village at night, please come back in as silently as possible so as not to disturb anyone else.
Mobile Phones
Mobile phones should be switched off at all times inside the centre. If you need to use one, please do so well away from the house and out of earshot of others.
No alcohol or drugs
We work with awareness and clarity through yoga and meditation so no alcohol or un-prescribed drugs are to be taken or brought back to the centre.
Smoking
If you need to have a cigarette please do so outside the front gate to the yoga centre. Please do not throw your butts into the cattle grid but dispose of butts in ashtray outside kitchen door.
Something bothering you?
If there is something that is bothering you, please let us know as soon as possible. If we can change something to help improve your experience here, we may be able to alleviate the situation.
Insurance and activities off-site
You are not insured for any of the activities you may decide to do outside the centre. This includes walking in the hills, sailing, swimming in the sea or any other activity.
Yoga room
The yoga room is a room reserved for yoga and meditation only,
No sleeping in this room.
Please keep talk in the yoga room to a minimum.
Please do not remove any of the mats or blankets from the yoga room.
Please do not use incense in this room, as it can interfere with pranayama for some people.
Karma Yoga
We ask all our guests to do some karma yoga in the form of taking turns washing up after meals and keeping the kitchen clean and tidy. If you experience difficulties with this, please talk to Dave or Mel or your course instructor. This apparently simple task can bring up joy and a feeling of well being for some people, and bitterness, anger and resentment in others. And as with most things in life, what we put in, comes back to us many-fold.
Have consideration for others
Some people come to the centre in order to escape a difficult period in their life. Please be considerate of others and allow each other the space to just be themselves during the course.
Before you leave
Please leave your sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers outside office door in the blue basket. Do not take mattress covers off bed. Do not take pillow protectors off pillows. Check shoe rack for your shoes, and coat rack for any jackets you may have forgotten. Please fill in feedback form if there is anything you would like to let us know about.
And the most important thing ;-)
Is to learn and practice good quality yoga, to have some good fun, and a lovely time. I sincerely wish you have a lovely stay at the centre.
After you get used to not wearing shoes indoors and hearing all these guidelines… its great yoga, delicious vegetarian food, good fun outdoors in the Burren, and relaxation after that!
And we hope you become one of our many returning guests.
Dave
