Description of course
This retreat is aimed at people who wish to work with the Ashtanga practice on a daily basis with a very experienced teacher;
Anthony Kearney.This is a great opportunity to spend a week practicing and learning with
a great teacher, who will give you very good attention to teach you correct alignment, give adjustments and also live with the teacher for the whole week.
The workshop will offer deep insights in the fundamental methods and principles of the Primary Series of Asthanga Yoga.
Anto will give supportive attention to each student‘s individual needs and possibilities as well as detailed information about the alignment of the Asanas, the breathing techniques, and the help of the Bandhas.
The workshop is open for all levels of practioners. Beginners to intermediate Level are welcome.
This course is ideal for anyone who wishes to deepen their understanding of Ashtanga yoga and receive adjustments and improvements to their alignment.
For any students who are ready, Anto will offer an introduction to some of the postures in the intermediate series.
The
Afternoon classes will focus on the practice of
regenerative Yoga postures (Yin Yoga), breathing exercises, meditation, Yoga philosophy and the history and method of Ashtanga Yoga. Anto will also offer a great exploration into the inverted poses, and also give clear instructions to prepare and improve your jump throughs.
Helpful instructions will be given to each student on how to build up or improve a safe and joyful Ashtanga Yoga practice.
There will be plenty of outdoor activites in the Burren and surrounding areas.
And the usual amazing vegetarian meals with Paddi the chef.
Cost of the course
The cost of the course is €730 and includes accommodation and vegetarian meals.
The food is cooked by Paddi the gourmet vegetarian chef who ran Seventh Heaven the well known restuarant in Galway city.
A single room costs €120 extra.
We eat lunch out locally and you will need to pay for this yourself.
Prices to attend part of a courseAdditional nights stay at the centre
To avail of a cheaper flight you may like to stay an extra night or two. Cost is €35 per night. No meals included.
Availability of staying an extra night will only be known 1 week before the course start date, and will depend on the numbers attending the previous weeks course.
If the centre is full, you could always stay that night in Kinvara village with one of the many b&b’s.
Who is the course suitable for
The workshop is open for all levels of practioners. Beginners to intermediate Level are welcome.
This course is strong and dynamic but suitable for (young and fit) beginners as well as advanced people.
This course is for people who wish to work intensively with their physical body through the Astanga practice.
Beginners will be gradually taken through the different asanas and vinyasas (breathing).
More advanced practitioners who know the series will practice at their own pace getting adjustments and being led further into the practice. This will include postures from the Intermediate series if you are ready.

What type of yoga is best for me ?
Instructor
Anthony Kearney initially studied Iyengar yoga and is a certified Iyengar teacher. He taught in this tradition until he was introduced to Ashtanga Yoga. From the very beginning, Anto fell in love with the Ashtanga practice, captured by the flowing techniques, challenging asanas, the breathing and the bandhas.

He completed an extensive yoga teacher training with senior teachers Graeme and Leonie Northfield in Australia and he has a strong background in meditation techniques.

He is a well known and very well liked ashtanga all over Ireland and also taught at the Burren Yoga and Meditation Centre in 2004.

Ashtanga with AntoHe is currently living in County Wexford where he teaches. He also teaches classes and workshops in Dublin and other parts of Ireland.
Anthony is dedicated to the practice and teaching of traditional Ashtanga Yoga. He is currently working with Manju P. Jois and Nancy Gilgoff as his main teachers in Ashtanga Yoga.
Anthony is enthusiastic to share his accumaleted experience with you on this course, encouraging you to practice with patience and discipline, to be individual and non competitive, to practice in a joyful way.
