Description of course

This retreat is aimed at people who wish to work with the Ashtanga practice on a daily basis with a very experienced and well known teacher; Granville Cousins.

The day begins with sitting meditation using breath focus and mindfullness.

Following the meditation, is an Ashtanga class with Granville where he teaches the sequence to beginners and concentrates on improving postures of more seasoned practitioners.

This course is for people who wish to work with their physical body through the Astanga practice.

There will be plenty of outdoor activites in the Burren and surrounding areas.

There is more information about our daily outdoor trips at Outdoors in the Burren.

And the usual amazing vegetarian meals with Paddi the chef.

Photos from Granville's ashtanga course in 2005 can be seen at Ashtanga week with Granville 2005

Cost of the course

The cost of the course has been reduced €690 and includes accommodation and vegetarian meals.

Further reduced to €650 for unwaged.

For unwaged, please read Unwaged further discounts

The food is cooked by Paddi the gourmet vegetarian chef who ran Seventh Heaven the well known restuarant in Galway city.

A single room costs €120 extra.

We eat lunch out locally and you will need to pay for this yourself.

Prices to attend part of a course

Additional nights stay at the centre

To avail of a cheaper flight you may like to stay an extra night or two. Cost is €35 per night. No meals included.

Availability of staying an extra night will only be known 1 week before the course start date, and will depend on the numbers attending the previous weeks course.

If the centre is full, you could always stay that night in Kinvara village with one of the many b&b’s.

Who is the course suitable for

This course is strong and dynamic but suitable for reasonably fit beginners as well as regular yoga practitioners.

Beginners will be gradually taken through the different asanas and vinyasas (breathing).

More experienced practitioners who know the series will practice at their own pace getting adjustments and being led further into the practice.

This course is for people who wish to work reasonably strongly with their physical body through the Astanga practice.

Instructors
Granville is an experienced teacher and has been practicing yoga for over 30 years. He has studied with Mr. B.K.S. Iyengar at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India and with him on several workshops and classes in the U.K

He began the Practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in 1995 with Michael Taylor and Elizabeth Wilson in the north of England and then more fully with Radha and the late Derek Ireland at "The Practice Place" in Crete now known as Yoga Plus.

Granville teaches Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga from the series as he was originally taught by his teachers but introducing some modifications that he has come to understand from his own experience.

Utube Granville at Burren Yoga 2007

Granville teaches regular classes and workshops in the Manchester area and is a frequent visitor to Ireland where he conducts week long workshops with his many Yoga Friends. He also leads retreats and holidays abroad in Spain, Tobago and the Middle-East.

His workshops and holidays are underpinned with early morning and evening Meditation sessions where the practioners are taught to sit quietly whilst Meditating on The Breath.

Then depending on the group, Analytical Practice is introduced which enables the practitioner to cut through barriers leading to a greater understanding of the way things are and in relation to their daily lives.

If you are in Manchester or would like to find out more about Granvilles website

"Through the practice of Meditation we learn to understand our humanity, transcend our mortality and merge into the bliss of true Being or Ascendant Consciousness. This is our quest, this is Yoga. May we all grow in Love and Light." Granville
