Paul believes that
"Yoga is for everybody… regardless of age or level of fitness"
A range of techniques will be explored during the weekend where all or part of the work offered can be experienced by the student.
Paul's intention is to generate a life-long interest (or renewed interest) in the Yoga teachings and practices.

Although Paul's classes can be quite challenging, they are suitable for all levels of abilities and he teaches variations of postures to make sure they are accessible to everybody.
Paul has intermediate ashtanga practitioners in his classes as well as complete beginners of all ages and all levels of fitness.
Each person will be challenged to work with the postures to their own ability, and there is no comparisons made between anybody on the course.

Each person works comfortably at their own level and pace and Paul ensures that you will be comfortable within your own limits and current level of fitness.
He introduces an array of variations on the postures..... so that complete beginners can be accommodated, while more seasoned practitioners are challenged to their own limits.
This weekend is suitable for complete beginners to those with a few years yoga experience.

Paul's approach brings a mindfulness and heart felt centering so that each person finds their own balance in their yoga practice.
There will be an outdoor walk in the Burren hills or by the sea on Saturday and Sunday.
And the usual amazing vegetarian meals with Paddi the chef.

Instructor
Paul Whelan has been practicing yoga since 1978, and successfully completed the Iyengar Yoga teacher Training course in the 90's.

Over the years Paul has studied and practiced Iyengar yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Shadow Yoga, Yoga with Desikachar and also extensive practice with pranayama, meditation and chanting.
Paul's classes on this weekend will combine some gentle postures and also more challenging ones for those who are able for them.

Paul first explored Yoga back in 1978 from a book entitled "Yoga and Health" by Selvarajan Yesudian.
Paul spent a number of years working from this book and exploring and experiencing the techniques of Asana and Pranayama and also their effects through extended practice.

Paul also studied Martial Arts over the next few years including Aikido, Wado-Ryu and became a TaeKwon-Do Black Belt in 1994.
In 1994 Paul then returned to further exploration of Yoga in earnest and to a more regular practice of Yoga as the years progressed.

Paul has had the great fortune to have undertaken a number of different yoga teacher training courses.
These have included an Iyengar Yoga teaching in the 1990's.

Paul has also completed David Swenson’s Ashtanga 1st Series Teacher Training (2001) and David’s Ashtanga 2nd Series Teacher Training (2006).

Other Teacher trainings completed are : Michael Gannon (2004), Philip Xerri (2006) and Rod Stryker (2009).
Since 2004 Paul has made 5 extended study trips to India, mainly Mysore to study with Guruji and Sharath but also 2010 to Chennai where he studied at the KYM with Desicachar and Khaustub.

Paul's yoga practice with Krishnamacharya's son Desikachar is a softer more all encompassing yoga and he has immersed himself within Chanting practices and deepened his knowledge of expanding one's consciousness and improving Body/Mind/Health through chanting.
He has also spent many years studying Tibetan Buddhism and Meditation.
In recent years Paul has studied Pranayama (Teacher Training 2006) and is also a Certified Vedic Chant Teacher (2009) form the Krishnamachraya Yoga Mandiram, Chennai, India.

Paul's Ashtanga Yoga practice is very comprehensive having studied in Mysore, India with Sri. K.Pattabhi Jois and Sharath and Manju.
Paul’s relaxed approach to Ashtanga Yoga is greatly influenced by Sri.K.Pattabhi Jois’ eldest son, Manju with whom he has worked closely with over the past 5 or 6 years.

Paul has practiced and trained with Manju in Ireland , Crete and England and in 2008 Paul organised and participated in a Teacher Training week in Ireland with Manju.
Paul's experience with Desikachar and other training and experience with other forms of yoga lets him bring an openness and a softness to his teaching of Yoga.
He is a regular student of Manju Jois, eldest son of Sri.KP Jois.

A great weekend to treat your'Self' to a weekend away.
