Iyengar & Meditation with Alex Kreiss
May 26th - 28th 2006
This course will include Iyengar asana classes and also morning meditation classes.
The Iyengar yoga method uses a precise and systematic approach to yoga, beginners start with simple asanas according to individual ability. Progress is gradually made by adding more detail and refinement. People of all levels of fitness need to start at the beginning to build on a foundation of correct practice and understanding. Each asana is studied in depth, practicing in this way focuses and quietens the mind.
Yoga can be seen as a tool which helps us locate our inner connection, it is where we reunite with our higher power, our purpose for life. Yoga energises, relaxes, strengthens and promotes correct breathing. Asanas build stamina and improve concentration making one feel benefited with a positive outlook, enthusiasm and a general sense of self awareness.
Iyengar emphasises correct alignment of the body within the usual classical yoga postures. Blocks, blankets and belts may be used to help open up the body and adapt to postures you may fell are difficult without the help of the props.
Alex is attentive to detail in her approach and will encourage you to work at whatever level is right for you.
You can expect very good alignment of postures which are often left out of an ashtanga class.
A great weekend enjoying excellent yoga classes, outdoors in the Burren with great vegetarian food and meeting new like minded people.
The goal of the course is to improve your Iyengar practice so that you may practice at home after the course.
And also introduce you to meditation so that you can continue on your own at home.
There will also be an outdoor trip into the Burren on Saturday.

Instructors
Alexandra is a native German and her first main teachers back in Germany were Renate Ockel (Berlin) and Vinod Dulal (Pune/India), who has been an assistant to Mr Iyengar for more than 15 years.

After moving to Ireland in 2000, she deepened her Iyengar studies with visiting senior teachers (Jeanne Maslen, Margaret Austin, Rajvi Mehta). With Yoga it's the same as in life, you never stop learning, it feels like you're going through layers, like an onion.
Most recently I've been intrigued by Dona Holleman and her thesis of the Seven Vital Principles. Taking them on board, one's practise becomes more energetic and light. Another Yoga style by Shandor Remetes (Shadow Yoga) and Qui Gong taught me how to integrate breath, energy and movement. -
