This weekend includes Iyengar yoga instructed by Greg Walsh who is a very popular, experienced teacher and studio owner and has been teaching Iyengar yoga for over 10 years. Greg brings his knowledge of yoga and a good sense of humour to the class.
All levels are welcome on this weekend exploration of Iyengar Yoga.
The Iyengar focus on precision and alignment encourages a safe and balanced yoga experience.
Even if you practice another form of yoga, this weekend will be a great insight into the alignment within postures, and also how to use blocks, bricks, yoga belts and yoga chairs.
These props assist newcomers to yoga as they give support in otherwise inaccessible poses. Props also assist more seasoned yoga practitioners, taking them further than they might be able to go on their own.
Using support if necessary each pose is held for a long period, and with the attention to alignment each pose becomes a meditation. Iyengar Yoga promotes a feeling of being open, stretched, and grounded in the body.
This weekend is suitable for all levels. Complete beginners to more experienced practitioners and aims to show you alignment, precision and how to practice yoga safely and in an enjoyable way.
On Saturday Dave who has an extensive knowledge of the Burren will bring us on an outdoor walk to one of the beautiful places in the Burren which may be a hill walk or a walk by the sea.
And Paddi our famous chef will be cooking the usual amazing vegetarian meals
Cost of the course
Reduced to €300 (€280 unwaged) and includes accommodation and vegetarian meals.
The food is cooked by Paddi the gourmet vegetarian chef who ran Seventh Heaven the well known restaurant in Galway city.
A single room costs €60 extra.
We eat lunch out locally and you will need to pay for this yourself.
Additional nights stay at the centre
To avail of a cheaper flight you may like to stay an extra night or two. Cost is €35 per night. No meals included.
Availability of staying an extra night will only be known 1 week before the course start date, and will depend on the numbers attending the previous week’s course.
If the centre is full, you could always stay that night in Kinvara village with one of the many b&b’s.
Who is the course suitable for
This week is suitable to any level and all ages.
Instructor
Greg Walsh has been practicing yoga since his mid twenties when he was introduces to Yoga whilst travelling in Nepal.
Although Greg’s first encounter with yoga included breathwork, relaxation and a more gentle relaxing type of yoga, he was much more attracted to Iyengar yoga
as it involved a more physical challenge, focus on strong body awareness and attention to detail.
Iyengar yoga can get quite strong as one becomes more experienced, but it is made easier for beginners in that there are always ‘easy variations’ of each posture. So in the same yoga class one can have some people who are complete beginners doing easy alternatives, while other more experiences people practice the full posture with precision and alignment.

Greg was awarded his Introductory Iyengar Teacher Training Certificate in 2002 after 2 years of intensive teacher training. In April 2005 he was further awarded his Intermediate Level 1 Iyengar Training Certificate, and in May 2006 he received his Intermediate Level 2 Certificate.

Greg is the founder and main Iyengar yoga teacher of the Samadhi Yoga Studios in Dublin and Drogheda.
As well as his formal teacher training and continued training, Greg has trained with many Senior Iyengar teachers, and continues to train;
"the yoga journey keeps on going..." as Greg says himself.
"For me, yoga goes beyond the physical practice. I see it as a tool for transformation: physical transformation, and also inner transformation.
I attempt to bring to my yoga classes an awareness of the deeper reasons for practicing yoga, to overcome physical and mental blockages, and to become more alive, awake and aware in everything we do, in yoga practice and in life."
