4 day retreat

June 24th – 28th 2006

Possible to come for an open day Sunday 25th June

Description of course

Swami Nishchalananda is a very special teacher. He is the most inspirational yoga teacher i have ever met - Dave

This course is an opportunity to spend 4 days within a very small group of people with this realized and experienced teacher, Swami Nishchalananda.

He lived in India for 14 years and was a close disciple of Swami Satyananda Saraswati, the founder of the Bihar school of Yoga.

During this time, he received extensive training in Yoga and direct Spiritual transmission from Swami Satyananda Saraswati.

During this 4 day retreat, Swami Nishchalanda will take us through selected techniques of the Vigyana Bhairava Tantra, many of which we will do outside in nature, in touch with the earth, air, water and open sky.

The aim is to give participants the confidence and training to apply these techniques in their lives, whether they live in a city, village or in the country.

The emphasis will be on practice.

There will also be breathwork and hatha yoga class with Dave Brocklebank each morning.

And chanting and also Satsang (Questions and Answers) with Swami Nishchalananda each day.

There is a link at the end of this page to more information on the Vigyana Bhairava Tantra.

There will be plenty of outdoor activites in the Burren and surrounding areas.

And the usual delicious vegetarian meals with Paddi the chef.

This course is an amazing opportunity to spend time with a very well known Swami and to receive the teachings directly from him.

Open Day Sunday 25th June

Cost of the course

The cost of the course is €550 and includes accommodation and vegetarian meals.

The food is cooked by Paddi the gourmet vegetarian chef who ran Seventh Heaven the well known restuarant in Galway city.

A single room costs €80 extra.

We eat lunch out locally and you will need to pay for this yourself.

Cost for open day Sunday 25th June, teachings with Swami Nishchalananda, all meals but no accommodation; €90

The yoga room holds 15 people comfortably for asana class, so this will be reserved for those staying the full 4 days.

Open day will begin Sunday 7:30 am until about 9:00 pm

People are asked to arrive on time as the class with Swami Nishchalananda will start promptly at 7:30 am.

Additional nights stay at the centre

To avail of a cheaper flight you may like to stay an extra night or two. Cost is €30 per night. No meals included.

Availability of staying an extra night will only be known 1 week before the course start date, and will depend on the numbers attending the previous weeks course.

If the centre is full, you could always stay that night in Kinvara village with one of the many b&b’s.

Who is the course suitable for

This course will be gentle, and include chanting and meditational techniques and we will have some of the practices outdoors.

This course is open to all, beginners and regular yoga practitioners.

It is recommended that you have some previous meditation experience.

Instructors

Swami Nishchalananda lived in India for 14 years and was a close disciple of Swami Satyananda Saraswati, the founder of the Bihar school of Yoga.

During this time, he received extensive training in Yoga and direct Spiritual transmission from Swami Satyananda Saraswati.

He underwent rigorous Yogic practice and long periods of seclusion together with a vow of silence (mouna). He also went deeply into Indian philosophy and mysticism and has an intuitive grasp and wide knowledge of the ancient Yogic and Tantric scriptures.

He mainly teaches the spiritual side of yoga and more subtle practices such as working with the awareness through tantric practices to tune into more subtle layers of ourselves as we are inevitably drawn towards our bigger destiny.

Swamiji feels very much at home in India and enjoys to travel both to the Bihar in the North and to Kerala and Bangalore in the south.

Swami Nishchalananda is the director of the Mandala Yoga Ashram in Wales.

Sw. Nishchalananda oversees the running of the centre and the Satyananda yoga teacher training courses where are run there.

Dave Brocklebank began meditating in 1978 and began practising Yoga in 1989 with the Galway school of Yoga and Meditation which is Satyananda based.

His classes begin with very gentle loosening up postures which help prepare the body for the stronger postures which are introduced after a number of months. He introduces Pranayama right from day one, and a large emphasis is placed on the awareness of the practitioner rather than their physical ability.

In addition to Dave's yoga lifestyle, he also attends Buddhist teachings and tries to bring these teachings into his own life and dealings with people.

Dave runs the Burren Yoga and Meditation Centre, co-ordinating courses, facilitating workshops and teaching Yoga and Meditation himself. He also maintains his own daily practice of Yoga and Meditation, and regularly attends Yoga workshops throughout the year.
