What type of yoga is best for me ?
We teach various forms of yoga at the Burren Yoga and Meditation Centre using the best of teachers from all over the world.
We have week long courses June to August, Christmas, New Year and Easter and weekend courses throughout the rest of the year.
Its possible to attend the weekend only of the week long courses also.
Choose the form of yoga which suits you
We teach many types of yoga, so it is important for you to choose the type of yoga that is appropriate for you.
Some forms of Yoga are
quite gentle while other forms are
very strong and dynamic.
Which type of yoga for which type of person ?
If you are
between 14 years of age and 30 years of age and have no back neck or knee injuries, then any of the types of yoga should be fine for you.
If you are
between 30 and 40 years of age, and if you have never practiced yoga before, you may feel Bikram yoga a bit too dynamic and hot and energetic and you would probably find Ashtanga yoga too strong and energetic.
However if you are between 30 and 40 and play many sports and are very fit (i don't mean just walking a few times a week), you may still enjoy the strong energetic physical aspects of either Bikram or Ashtanga.
If you do not play other sports, you may be better advised to choose a more gentle type of yoga to start with such as
- Gentle yoga and Detox
- Satyananda yoga
- Hatha yoga
- Kundalini yoga
If you are over
40 years of age, and have never practiced yoga before you are advised to choose one of the more gentle forms of yoga listed above.
If you have any back, neck or knee
injuries you are better advised to choose one the gentle forms of yoga above.
If you have
health condition or injuries or weakness which you feel could hold you back or cause problems doing physical yoga postures, you are advised to talk directly to Dave on the phone 091-637680

Listed in order of most gentle first, and more stronger towards end
- Satyananda is a more traditional form of yoga and includes breathwork, more gentle postures, deep relaxation and meditation. Nice and relaxing, ideal for beginners.
- Hatha Yoga is reasonably gentle and involves stretching, breathork and expect to be challenged within your own limitations
- Kundalini is also gentle and includes walking meditations, gentle postures and working with energies inside. Suitable for beginers.
- Iyengar is another physical form of yoga and is quite precise in its alignment within postures and uses blocks and belts to help open up more in the postures. Not as strong as ashtanga.
- Bikram is a fitness form of yoga which takes place in a heated room, so involves plenty of sweating and is very dynamic. Expect lots and lots of sweating and movement.
- Ashtanga is very strong and dynamic and is a flowing sequence of sun salutations and postures. Please expect some sweating due to strong physical exertion.
