Description of post Christmas & New Year yoga retreat

This post Christmas & New Year yoga retreat is a lovely way to spend 6 days just after Christmas with refreshing and energising yoga classes, relaxing yoga Nidra sessions and outdoor walks in the beautiful Burren. Not to mention the delicious vegetarian food.

Satyananda yoga is a more traditional form of yoga and includes breathwork and working with one's awareness right from the start.

Emphasis is placed on working with one's awareness, rather than on focussing on one's physical capabilities.

Christmas Yoga retreat

This Christmas yoga retreat is reasonably gentle and includes
  • breathwork
  • gentle postures
  • salutation to the sun
  • Yoga Nidra deep relaxation
  • Meditation

The goal of the course is to introduce you to Satyananda yoga so that you may practice at home after the course.

Or you may like to come along to deepen your yoga practice, and learn to tune inwards more deeply.

One big difference between attending regular weekly yoga classes and going away on a week yoga retreat is that being in a yoga environment allows one break away from the normal life patterns and responsibilities which in turn allows one to experience the practices and their effects to a deeper level in more tranquil surroundings.

To get a good idea of what the Christmas 2012 retreat will be like, it is a good idea to see the 6 minute video on the home page 6 minute Video on our Summer Yoga holiday retreats

There will also be organised outdoor trips into the Burren each afternoon.

Cost of the Christmas 2012 retreat

The cost of the Christmas retreat is reduced to €690 and includes accommodation and vegetarian meals.

Instructor

Tadhg Ferriter is in his mid forties, and practiced from many yoga styles before discovering Satyananda yoga in the mid 90’s. Like many students of yoga he was first attracted to the relaxing benefits the postures brought to the busy lifestyle and demanding career path he found himself on.

description

After completing his training as a Satyananda teacher with Swami Shraddha Murti and Swami Chetan Murti Tadhg visited Swami Niranjanananda who is leader of Satyananda Yoga worldwide and resides in his Ashram in North East India.

Tadhg is very inspired by Niranjananda and his time spent in India, and he regularly attends further training and yoga courses, seminars, and yoga gatherings both in Ireland and abroad.

With three young children and a distinguished career in management Tadhg has direct experience of integrating a successful vibrant personal yoga practice into a busy modern lifestyle. Much of his work as a teacher aims to facilitate others to reap the benefits of doing the same in their own lives.

Tadhg’s daily yoga practice, teaching and yogic lifestyle are guided by the principles of the Satyananda yoga system.

description

Swami Satyananda describes yoga as "a higher form of common sense, a pure and precise science which evolves from within. To live yoga is to be in harmony with oneself."

While asana (yoga postures) of appropriate strength for the each individual student are important for progressing, the use of Pranayma (work with the Breath) and meditation are also considered necessary from an early stage in the Satyananda system.

description

Satyananda yoga teachers are trained to the highest standard, with regular in-service training and assessment. The teaching diploma is recognised by Yoga Federation Ireland (YFI), Bihar School of Yoga (Satyananda Yoga) and the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY). These qualifications are approved and recognised worldwide.

Tadhg has also travelled to the Satyananda yoga ashram in India, and brings back the heart felt approach and into his classes and his life.

description

Tadhg specialises in the integration of yoga into everyday life and encourages students in an open and sensitive way to work with themselves as they are and in the situation they find themselves in.
