All the teachers who teach at the Burren yoga centre are fully qualified and all have completed a well recognised yoga teacher training course.

The most important aspect of the Burren Yoga centre is the quality of the yoga teaching, and for that reason, Dave ensures that only the best teachers teach at the centre.

Over the past 5 years, we have seen many people setting themselves up as yoga teachers and we have also seen particular bodies setting up 6 week long teacher training courses.

In order to teach yoga, one must immerse oneself in the practices for many years, before one is able to pass on any of the techniques from one's own experience.

This is impossible to fit into a 6 week course, and all well recognised teacher courses are a minimum of 2 years.

There is no overall Yogic Association which checks the quality of yoga teachers, so often its up to the student to check

  • exactly what type of teacher training the Yoga teacher has
  • How long their teacher training course lasted
  • how many years they have practiced yoga themselves
  • How often a week they maintain their practice and for how long each day
  • Who their current teachers are and how often they attend classes and workshops themselves

Because so many people are realizing that there are huge benefits to be gained from learning and practicing yoga, many hotels and Spa's are advertising yoga weekends where the quality of yoga instruction is not very high.

So if you are considering taking up yoga classes or are considering going on a yoga course, it is advisable to ask the above questions about the teacher giving the course.
