Easter 2010 One week Yoga retreat

1 week Easter Yoga retreat: Yoga, Breath-work, Meditation with David Muehsam

April 2nd - 8th 2009

Easter 2010 retreat

A great opportunity to spend the Easter week practicing and learning yoga with the amazing David Muehsam from the States.

This course is suitable for beginners, those who have a little yoga experience, and also those who have a regular practice.

David is very experienced and is well used to looking after a group of very mixed abilities.

David is a one of a handful of teachers worlwide to be given authorisation directly from Pattabhi Jois, (Guru of Ashtanga Yoga ).

He has tremendous experience and is widely regarded as one of the best yoga teachers to visit Ireland.

David is an extreemly highly qualified yoga teacher with a huge background in Iyengar and Ashtanga and he deepens the practice by including many inner techniques of Swami Satyananda Saraswati.

He is also an accomplished musician, and has big interests in healing and consciousness.

David has also conducted a yoga teacher training here at Burren Yoga in October 2007 and January 2008.

And also a similar week long yoga retreat here at Burren Yoga in 2007 & 2008 & 2009.

This July 2009 workshop is aimed at giving you very good individual attention to improve and deepen your yoga practice, and David will tailor the pranayama (breath-work) practices to each individual's needs.

Easter Yoga retreat

This Easter yoga workshop will work at a deeper inner level with bandhas and mudras to help you get in touch with internal energies and draw your practice deeper inwards.

We will have morning asana and meditation classes and workshop classes every second afternoon.

There will be plenty of outdoor activities in the Burren and surrounding areas.

And the usual amazing vegetarian meals with Paddi the chef.

Cost of the Easter yoga week course

The cost of the course is €730 and includes accommodation and vegetarian meals.

Amazing vegetarian meals each day, breakfast and dinner.

A single room costs €120 extra.

We eat lunch out locally and you will need to pay for this yourself.

Prices to attend part of a course

Additional nights stay at the centre after the Easter retreat

Sometimes flight at Easter can be a little more expensive.

So it may be wroth considering, coming a day earlier, and staying a day later?

To avail of a cheaper flight you may like to stay an extra night or two. Cost is €35 per night. No meals included.

Availability of staying an extra night will only be known 1 week before the course start date, and will depend on the numbers attending the previous weeks course.

If the centre is full, you could always stay that night in Kinvara village with one of the many b&b’s.

Who is the Easter yoga course suitable for

This course is aimed at regular practitioners of yoga but you do not have to be an advanced practitioner.

It is also suitable to beginners and those who do not have much yoga experience yet.

Don't worry.... just because David is very accomplished in his practice, he still keeps his Easter workshop open to people not so proficient.

So you won't have to do the postures in the photos below .... unless you really want to ;-)

Having said that, if you are a well practiced Ashtangi or Iyengar practitioner, this is an unusual opportunity to work with a very experienced teacher who will take you deeper into your practice in an advanced way.

For those who are more accomplished, David will help them develop and expand their physical practice while guiding them deeply inwards using more subtle techniques to get in touch with internal energies.

For people with only a little yoga experience David will gently guide them at a level suitable for their bodies and limitations.

David includes breathing techniques (pranayama) and the hand gestures (mudras) which help direct the internal energy.

More advanced practitioners will receive individual guidance from David suitable to their level of practice.

This course is for people who wish to work with their physical body and who wish to deepen their intenal work through pranayama, mudra and bandha.

Description of Easter yoga retreat course
In this Easter 2010 yoga retreat we will practice with an eye towards deepening the experience of yoga, finding a personal relationship with the practices of yoga. We’ll do full practices of yoga postures, and develop the pranayama exercises with an eye towards tailoring these practices towards each individual’s needs and experience. We will have pranayama and meditation each morning before the asana practice.

As we practice, we will explore the internal processes of bandha, and the natural balance of energy that comes when the postures and breath work together in harmony. Drawing on the Ashtanga and Iyengar systems as a starting point, we will explore the variations in techniques and sequence that lead each of us to creating a truly personal practice that is safe, fulfilling and fun. We will see that the bandha is the place where the body meets the breath, or the material meets the Spirit, and practice ways of experiencing and using the bandhas from the perspective of Vinyasa or breath/movement, and internal action in each posture, or asana techniques.

We will also take the opportunity to explore the world of mudras, both in terms of the literal practice of mudras in yoga, and metaphorically, through the poses and practices of yoga. When practiced mindfully, the poses themselves become mudras, opening like flowers that allow the heart and mind to settle into the natural unfoldment of yoga.

We will run several of the afternoon classes as workshops, practicing aspects of yoga such as the breath and bandhas, backbending, inversions, etc, in more detail, with a goal towards applying this information right away in our practices.

For accomplished practitioners, this Easter yoga retreat will be an opportunity to deepen one’s practice, with guidance for progressing into more advanced postures and sequences. For less experienced students, this week will offer the opportunity to develop as sound foundation for future practice, understand the principle of Hatha Yoga more clearly, and deepen one’s ability to do sustained self-practice."
