Overview of The Yoga Room teacher training

The fully comprehensive yoga teacher training will provide its graduates with the knowledge, skills and confidence to teach yoga safely and mindfully. This programme is for serious students of yoga and aspiring yoga teachers. Teaching yoga can help you create a life where your beliefs, thoughts and actions flow from your core values. Whether you are interested in broadening your understanding of yoga or teaching yoga to others, this in-depth teacher training course is for you. Our integrated and holistic 200-hour program is designed to foster a thorough learning environment where those who wish to teach are given the skills and knowledge to be creative, compassionate and confident teachers.

This broad-based yoga teacher training programme is designed to honour the timeless teachings and many styles of yoga that have grown from the lineage of Krishnamacharya, the inspiration behind many styles of modern yoga including Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Hatha Flow, Iyengar Yoga and the teachings of his son Desikachar. Students will be given a solid foundation and the resources to develop his/her own individualistic teaching style. The training is grounded in Yoga’s ancient roots as well as its modern blossoming; giving graduates the tools to adapt their teaching style to every level – from beginner to advanced – and every body type.

COURSE OUTLINE

The Yoga Room’s 200hour Teacher Training Programme curriculum follows the international standards of Yoga Alliance’s Registered Yoga Teacher 200-hour certification requirements. The course includes:

 

Yoga Practice and Class Sequencing

A detailed analysis of yoga postures (asana) will be taught and options for safe, appropriate and creative class sequencing for every level and body type. Students will learn through guided yoga practices and teaching practicums.

Yoga Principles and Methodology

Elements of yogic lifestyle such as nutrition and self-care will be discussed and teacher trainees will gain insight into retaining a balanced, calm, centred presence at all times. Basic teaching ethics and principles such as class set-up, communication, principles of instruction, demonstration, observation, adjustments and sequencing will be studied.

Anatomy and Physiology

A solid understanding of the main body systems and organ functions will be offered as well as an in-depth study of the main muscles of movement, and common ailments and injuries in relation to yoga.

Subtle Body Anatomy

Students will gain a thorough understanding of subtle body anatomy as it relates to the yoga tradition. This includes an understanding of the three energy bodies integral to the evolution of spirit (the gross, subtle and causal), the five koshas of the energy bodies, the chakra system and the nadis.

Meditation, Pranayama and the Bandhas

The study of meditation and yogic breathing techniques (pranayama) will form a core element of the course. Various meditation practices such as yoga nidra, mantra meditation, chakra-based meditation, insight meditation will be taught. A key component of this, subtle body anatomy and yoga posture (asana) will include working with the Bandhas of the body – yoga locks – mula, uddiyana and jalandhara bandhas.

History and Philosophy of Yoga

Trainees will become familiar with the overview of the history of yoga and the birth of the various branches of yoga, and the eight-limbs of yoga according to the earliest known yogic sage Patanjali. Sections of ancient yogic scriptures will be studied among them the Yoga Sutras, The Bhagavad Gita, The Upanishads and The Hatha Yoga Pradipika.

200-hour COURSE COSTS

Early-bird registration fee is €2,400 if paid in full by Fri 1st Feb 2013

Basic fee is €2,600 to be paid prior to course commencing.

Installments: The course fee may be paid in two instalments of €1,350 to be paid by Friday 15th February and Friday 28th June.
To guarantee your place we require a non-refundable deposit of €500. Payments are accepted by cash, cheque or credit or laser card.

Course fees are non-refundable once the course starts, and include all tuition and mentoring, a detailed course manual and course materials.

 

Additional costs: These will include your registration fee with Yoga Alliance (currently $25 once-off application fee plus $85USD annual registration) plus your required textbooks. A 300-page teacher training manual is included in the cost of the course. Students may attend yoga classes at The Yoga Room at a discounted rate.

 


 

500hour Advanced Level TEACHER Training

The 500-Hour Certified Programme consists of 300 hours additional advanced training in a modular format that allows for deep study and personal immersion. The aim is to elevate students’ teaching skills and personal practice to a new level thorugh a curriculum that balances experiential ‘on the mat’ learning with lectures, practicums, personal study, group process and personal mentoring.

 

Admission to the 500-Hour programme is open to students who have completed an approved 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Programme according to the standards of Yoga Alliance.

 

Course outline

Techniques and Training Practices

The 500-Hour Programme is designed to help students build on their learning from their 200-Hour programme and their practice and teaching skills to date. The emphasis will be on developing a stronger technical practice and a more in-depth awareness of physical and subtle body alignment. Students will learn to integrate the spiritual and philisophical aspects of yoga into their practice and teaching.

 

There will be equal emphasis on asana, pranayama and meditation practices to allow a deeper understanding of working with the subtle body through the breath, the chakra system, the bandhas and the koshas.

 

Teaching Methodology

The lineage of Krishnamacharya offers a deep well of inspiration to draw from to develop different ways of sequencing, pacing, theme-in and designing classes safely, mindfully and compassionately. Subjects studied will include; advanced class sequencing; yoga therapeutics and injury management; safe adjustments and modifications; embodying spiritual leadership, conscious communication and the role of ‘teacher’; incoporating spiritual themes and dimensions into the teaching style.

 

Anatomy and Physiology

The advanced anatomy and physiology section of the course affords a more in depth look at the systems of the physical and the subtle body. In addition therapeutic ways of working with physical limitations, injury and the subtle body including an in depth exploration of working energetically, the chakra system, the nadis, koshas, mudras and bandhas.

 

Philosophy
The Philosophy section of the 300-hour training will explore The Yoga Sutras, The Hatha Yoga Pradapika, The Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita with the aim of deepening our relationship with their seminal wisdom and incorporating their teachings into our life and work. There will be a special focus on the non-dualistic teachings of Tantra and Buddhist philosphy. Facillitated group work will help you consider how you can life our yoga ‘off the mat’ full alive to your practice and the opportunities of present moment awareness; thereby inspiring others to do the same.

Faculty

The YogaRoom has assembled a faculty of leaders in their field of yoga. All are faculty are ERYT500 level and together their experience amounts to hundreds of hours and decades living and teaching yoga. (More detailed information to come) Among them will be:
Jodie Rufty
From New York, Jodie has led dozens of 500hour trainings across the US. She is a committed yogi and meditator.
Tony Purcell
One of Ireland’s most experienced and popular teachers. Tony has taught Iyengar, Ashtanga, Hatha yoga for nearly twenty years.
Veronica Larsson
A ERYT500 teacher of over ten years experience Veronica originally trained in Iyengar and was an Ashtanga practitioner and teacher of many years. In the last five years she has developed a style of working with hatha yoga that incorporates subtle body awareness to enable deeper healing and opening.
Michael McCann
A teacher trainer for nearly twenty years, Michael has studied the ancient yogic texts in depth since the 1970s. His satsangs, meditation, pranayama and philosophy teachings offer a wellspring of wisdom and experiential perspective on the ancient teachings.
Connnie Walshe
A registered nurse and yoga therapist, Connie has over two thousand hours of yoga training. Her work will offer therapeutic insight into working with injuries and guiding emotional and physical trauma back into wholeness and alignment.
Lisa Petersen
Lisa’s extensive training in energetic and developmental patterning in bodies offers a unique perspective on teaching. A teacher and student of Donna Farhis and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen for many years. She now co-teaches on Donna Farhi’s teacher trainings worldwide.
James Higgins
Originallly from San Francisco  and several times featured in Yoga Journal and their conferences, James’ will help develop students’ unique teaching style and voice, elevate personal practice and facilitate how to embody spiritual leadership in a grounded and heart-centred way.
Rutger Kortenhorst
Sanskrit scholar and spiritual yogi, Rutger has many years experience teaching Sanskrit in an academic environment and living as a yogi in India. His teachings bring to life this ancient, spiritual language.
