    • Instructor Bio Cathy Pearson

Cathy Pearson has been practicing meditation for over 20 years and has studied various types of yoga over the years which gives her a great repertoire to choose from when teaching her students.

Her Vinyasa Yoga classes emphasize a deep connection with the breath, clarity and stillness of the mind, strength, balance, a graceful flow of moving mediation with the exploration of consciousness.

Cathy – I offer many “modifications” in my classes; this basically means that one posture can be practiced in several different ways from total beginners to seasoned practitioners.

Description of Vinyasa yoga and meditation retreat

Vinyasa Yoga and a healing journey through the Chakra system.

Who is this week long Vinyasa yoga retreat suitable for

This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as advanced people.

An ideal week in August to let go of the stresses and strains of everyday life and to let go into a very peaceful and tranquil environment with a gifted teacher and share some time with like minded people.

In this Vinyasa yoga retreat we will have time to take an in depth exploration of Chakra system and how this relates to our asana and meditation practice.

As the unconscious becomes known, the mind and body experience new degrees of freedom.

Cathy will share her knowledge of this system in an interactive way that favors class participation and discussion at times.

Each day of this retreat will include dynamic Vinyaysa yoga practices followed by extended guided meditation through this ancient system that explores consciousness. Several aspects will be covered during this retreat:

      1. Asana classes in the style of Vinyasa yoga, a flowing graceful and strong moving meditation that holds sequenced Asanas (poses) for typically 5 to 10 breaths each. We transit through each pose thoughtfully and quietly moving deeper into our bodies as we go.
      2. Pranayama, Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) will be practiced each day, so we dig deep with one technique and really experience its benefits.
      3. Daily Meditations guided by Cathy Pearson
      4. Evening open talks on healing and consciousness
      5. Healing sessions two evenings to release energy, purify the body and expand consciousness.
      6. Fun walks in the nearby Burren beautiful countryside. Spending time in nature is an important part of our path as yogis.

Each day after breakfast, Dave will lead the group on a guided outing and we will either do a hill walk in the Burren hills or a walk by the sea. Depending on the inclinations of the group we may also go surfing, kayaking or take a boat trip to the Cliffs of Moher or to the Aran Islands. All these activities are optional.

These guided outings are an important part of each eco yoga retreat and it is a lovely way to see some special places in the Burren well away from the usual tourist places.

The secret forest has been described by one visitor as the type of place that fairies and elves live, and when they heard us coming they hid out of sight, but did not have time to take away their fairy veils and magic feelings which fill the air.

During our guided outing we stop off for lunch at one of the best local restaurants or cafes. One favourite is the Ballyvaughan tea rooms where Stephen Spielberg flew in especially to order the cheese cake.

During August there are plenty of wild flowers and it is lovely each year to see old friends popping up.

We will explore some of the teachings about Sushumna Nadi; the channel located in the center of the spine, through which spiritual energy or Kundalini Shakti will eventually rise from.

We will also delve into the pranayama technique of Nadi Shodhana , (alternate nostril breathing) a powerful method of balancing Ida and Pingala or our solar and lunar energies.

Each day will conclude with an extended guided meditation to leave you feeling centered, rejuvenated and revitalised.

On the first evening of the week, following a slow flow restorative session to unwind fully, Cathy will be guide you into a very special Yoga Nidra, or psychic sleep.

This is a technique used to reach an altered state of conscious between the dream state and wakefulness. The body becomes very receptive to healing energies and very deep relaxation is induced.

Each evening Paddi the cook who has been preparing amazing vegetarian food at Burren Yoga for over 11 years will prepare a delicious vegetarian dinner.

If this is your first time to come to Burren Yoga, please be reassured you will not go hungry…. just read the reviews 😉

Cathy has spent years teaching very mixed level classes so if you are new to yoga you will get as much out this week as if you were a dedicated yogi.

Many “modifications” are offered; this basically means that one posture can be practiced in several different ways from total beginners to seasoned practitioners.

Resting in child’s pose and knowing when to take breaks is also an important part of yoga practice.

Cathy will also guide you into a very special Yoga Nidra, or psychic sleep.

This is a technique used to reach an altered state of conscious between the dream state and wakefulness. The body becomes very receptive to healing energies and very deep relaxation is induced.

Each person is cared for on an individual basis, and each person works at their own level and no comparisons are made between anybody.

There is plenty of time for Cathy to share her experience and the atmosphere is light, fun, relaxed and inspiring.

By the end of the retreat you will be feeling lighter, more open in your body and your mind, and fully refreshed to bring this new energy and new practices into your everyday life.
