    • Instructor Bio Bev Porrino

Bev Porrino is a very experienced and kind teacher, and makes everybody feel at home within her classes.

Prior to being a Yoga Teacher, she used to work as a nurse, and later as a social worker. Her experience with people makes her a very good listener, and she tailors her teaching to each person depending on what they need at the time.

The breath is very important to Bev and she will explain about using various parts of the lungs when breathing, and will explain how this helps increase the prana (inner energy) and how to incorporate this into your practice.

Bev is a firm believer that “Yoga is for everybody…. regardless of age or ability and that everybody is welcome at her classes”

Description of 2018 Hatha yoga retreat

Let Bev be your guide, have fun, and ‘just be’

Bev Porrino was introduced to meditation and energy work as a child by her mum who was a holistic practitioner. Prior to being a yoga teacher, she has worked as a Nurse and as a Social worker.

She is a very kind teacher and will make sure that everybody is listened to and looked after.

The breath is very important to Bev and she will introduce you to using different parts of the lungs, and will guide you to help breathe more deeply and easily, and to incorporate this into your practice.

Bev will explain how the correct breathing will increase the prana (inner energy).

Bev has an in-depth knowledge of the body and will make yoga accessible to all.

This retreat week will provide a refreshing, energising yet deeply relaxing space through enjoyable hatha yoga practice utilising the breath and designed to bring us further on our own journey.

The classes will begin with breath work, and helping you to get in touch with the breath. And gradually leading into the more gentle postures, to gradually help open up the body.

Some of the postures are quite gentle and encourage us to ‘let go’ of trying too hard physically, and to tune inwards to get in touch with how we are feeling right now in this present moment.

Bev gives guidance on correct alignment within the postures as well as bringing your awareness to the breath during the asana class.

Bev is a wonderful teacher, and her knowledge of the body, and movement is excellent, and means that she confidently works with all levels of students, and abilities. And she is one of the most fun, warm engaging and grounded teachers you will ever meet.

      Maria Cauldwell, Dublin yoga teacher

      [

The Yoga practice will be gently invigorating and energising, sometimes working with Vinyasa style flows, and sometimes slowing down to work with alignment and feeling into our experience.

Drawing on her own experience, from various different yoga traditions she offers classes that focus on alignment, personal enquiry, release and opening to what is there.

She readily adapts the practice to the individual, so that everyone can benefit from the experience.

This week retreat is suitable for complete beginners as well as regular Yoga practitioners. It is suitable for all ages.

Bev is a firm believer that “Yoga is for everybody…. regardless of age or ability and that everybody is welcome at her classes”

Each of Bev’s classes are well balanced, and there is a good variety of all forms of postures both gentle and invigorating.

Each day after breakfast, Dave will lead the group on a guided outing and we will either do a hill walk in the Burren hills or a walk by the sea.

Depending on the preferences of the group we may also go on a boat trip to see the Cliffs of Moher, or Surf lessons on Fanore beach or some of the other many activities available.

These guided outings are an important part of each eco yoga retreat and it is a lovely way to see some special places in the Burren well away from the usual tourist places.

The secret forest has been described by one visitor as the type of place that fairies and elves live, and when they heard us coming they hid out of sight, but did not have time to take away their fairy veils and magic feelings which fill the air.

During our guided outing we stop off for lunch at one of the best local restaurants or cafes. One favourite is the Ballyvaughan tea rooms where Stephen Spielberg flew in especially to order the cheese cake.

Some of the classes are restorative and involve some gentle releasing postures.

We will also practice supported restorative postures that facilitate deep , yet gentle release, and renewal on many levels.

These restorative yoga classes are great for ‘letting go’, and bring a deeply relaxed and nourishing feeling to all levels of our being.

Bev also teaches Yoga Nidra which is an ancient practice which guides us into a very deep state of relaxation and the whole process is very powerful for relaxation and transformation on all levels.

This week will be an opportunity to step out of the busy- ness of daily life in order to re connect with ourselves and Nurture Body, mind and spirit with Yoga postures, Pranayama and meditation.

Bev ensures that each person finds a comfortable sitting posture, and uses various props to help find more comfort and ease with the practice.

The meditation is introduced in a very easy way for compete beginners, and through practicing twice each day, each participant becomes more comfortable with the practice so that they can continue at home after the retreat.

Each evening Gearoid the cook who used to work in a Hare Krishna restaurant in New York, will prepare “with love” a delicious vegetarian dinner and many people have said they have not eaten vegetarian food as good as this at any restaurant.

Gearoid’s food has to be experienced to be believed 😉

On this week Bev will also teach ‘breath focussed awareness’ meditation, and her teaching will be suitable for complete beginners as well as regular practitioners. If you have never practiced before, by the end of the week you will have a range of different practices that you can take home with you in order to continue with your own daily practice…. no matter be it 10 minutes each day.

I just LOVE Bev’s yoga classes. She has an in depth knowledge of yoga, the human body and she has a wonderful personality.
