    • Instructor Bio Gabi Gillessen

Gabi Gillessen has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and has been involved with teacher training on the Irish Yoga Association (IYA) for many years.

Gabi has experienced many styles of yoga, and her training in Iyengar yoga influences how she teaches, in that she brings a lot of focus to explaining and demonstrating correct alignment so that you will fully understand each of the postures.

Gabi is very clear in her description of postures, and also the benefits and precautions required.

She is also a great yoga teacher for complete beginners, as she will give variations that are easier to practice until you are ready for the full postures.

    • I feel more in touch with my body & soul than I have in a long time! Although I have been doing yoga at home, it has been a very different experience here & you’ve managed to coax my body to bend & stretch beyond my expectations! My mojo has returned & I hope to keep up some of the moves & meditation, relaxation plus breathing properly, as part of my new Gabi / Burren routine. I will visualise you when I do yoga alone & look forward to that Gabi CD. Hope we meet again someday – the craic has been brilliant.

Description of November 2013 Hatha yoga retreat

Tune inwards and be guided by Gabi

This November 2013 Hatha yoga retreat weekend provides a lovely and nurturing space with time to let go of everyday commitments and tune into your self.

We develop an openness and a freedom of both body and mind through gentle yet sometimes challenging yoga, breathing exercises, sitting meditation and having fun on this Hatha yoga weekend.

This November Hatha yoga retreat is suitable for all ages and all fitness levels from complete beginners to advanced practitioners  and aims to relax, centre and energize you.

Gabi gives very clear instructions and is very attentive to make sure everybody gets a good understanding of the postures.

Some of the postures are quite gentle, while others are more challenging.

We only have a maximum of 15 people on each retreat, so even if you are a teacher or a very experienced practitioner, you will be given adjustments and information suitable for you own level.

Gabi’s approach gives you a very deep understanding of the postures as she will give also give you a lot of information about the postures as well as teach you how to come into the posture.

Gabi has a lot of Iyengar yoga experience and uses her Iyengar training to give clear demonstrations and also clear precise information about alignment for each posture.

This November weekend retreat will be reasonably gentle, but will also challenge each person to work with the postures to their own ability.

There is no comparison made between retreat participants, and this retreat is suitable for all levels including complete beginners.

Gabi is very patient and will give encouragement and adjustments suitable for each person’s level of practice.

Gabi also trains yoga teachers, and is able to recognise when someone is ready to go deeper into a posture.  So each person will be challenged to their own ability.

You will be amazed at how your practice will improve with Gabi’s attentive instructions.

Through progressive classes of practice you will find that the body opens up and you will be able to improve and deepen your practice over the weekend.

On Saturday, Dave takes the group on guided outings into the Burren hills and by the sea, and this is a great opportunity to see many special places one would normally come across in the Burren.

Most people come on their own and many make new friends they stay in contact with after they return home.

The Burren is a very magical place on the west coast of Ireland, and this time spent in Nature is a very important aspect of letting go any cares or worries and these walks are like food for the soul.

Dave also uses his local knowledge to bring the group to one of the best local restaurants or cafes to have lunch while we are on our outing, which is a great way to sample the best of the locale cuisine in the Burren.

Some yoga classes will be challenging and others will be restorative yoga  where one can sink to very deep states of letting go, while the body opens up in one of the restorative postures.

Gabi’s teaching style draws from her wide experience of studying and practicing with very advanced teachers and she brings these practices to you in an easily understood and accessible way.

Gabi is mindful of each individual’s need to find their own balance in their yoga practice.

She gently guides and encourages each student to explore and open to their fullest potential.

Gabi’s teaching style draws from her wide experience of studying and practicing with very advanced teachers and she brings these practices to you in an easily understood and accessible way.

Using the props allows people to go into the postures safely and to ‘let go’ within the posture.

Gabi will start each day with some breathing practices and meditation.

This will include instructions on how to use the props to find a comfortable sitting position, and also will include an introduction to meditation for complete beginners.

There will also be an evening meditation class from 9:00 – 9:30 pm

The practice of meditation is central to one’s yoga practice and the physical asana classes help the body to open up and to become prepared for one’s meditation practice.

Some happy smiling faces from Gabi’s retreat last year.

This is a great weekend retreat to be skilfully guided by Gabi to learn new practices, improve your existing practice and also learn how to get in touch with your ‘inner essence’.
