      Great opportunity to spend a whole week with the very popular and very experienced Iyengar yoga teacher Greg Walsh. Learn precise alignment within your postures and feel the benefits of spending consecutive Iyengar yoga classes with Greg over one week.

      As well as a great week away from your usual everyday life, this is a great way to learn correct alignment so that you can continue your yoga practice at home after the week.

      This Iyengar yoga week consists of an inviting and uplifting timetable over the week of

      Greg Walsh has been practising yoga almost 20 years since he was introduced to Yoga whilst travelling in Nepal.

      Greg is a very popular, experienced teacher and studio owner and has been teaching Iyengar yoga for over 15 years. Greg brings his knowledge of yoga and a good sense of humour to the class.

      Although Greg’s first encounter with yoga included breath work, relaxation and a more gentle relaxing type of yoga, he was much more attracted to Iyengar yoga as it involved a more physical challenge, focus on strong body awareness and attention to detail.

      Description of Iyengar Yoga week retreat

      Be guided skilfully by Greg Walsh and experience the Iyengar focus on precision and alignment which will encourage a safe and balanced yoga experience.

       

      This week includes Iyengar yoga instructed by Greg Walsh who is a very popular, experienced teacher and studio owner and has been teaching Iyengar yoga for over 15 years. Greg brings his knowledge of yoga and a good sense of humour to the class.

       

       

      Who this Iyengar yoga week retreat is suitable for

      Suitable for complete beginners to intermediate, but one should be prepared for a good challenge to your body.

      Greg will give variations so everyone works at their own level.

       

       

      The Iyengar focus on precision and alignment encourages a safe and balanced yoga experience.

       

       

      For beginners, the Iyengar yoga attention to detail and precise alignment is a great way to start off practicing postures in a very safe way with correct alignment.

       

       

      For those more experienced yoga practitioners Greg will explain more subtleties of the postures and also offer more advanced variations.

       

       

      Each person will simply follow the instructions to their own ability.

      The asana and the yoga movements begin with the foundations of the postures, and for those with experience these postures can be layered and develop into more advances poses from a simple starting point, only moving to the next stage of the pose if the breath is steady and flowing.

       

       

      Even if you practice another form of yoga, this week will be a great insight into the alignment within postures, and also how to use blocks, bricks, yoga belts and yoga chairs.

       

       

      These props assist newcomers to yoga as they give support in otherwise inaccessible poses. Props also assist more seasoned yoga practitioners, taking them further than they might be able to go on their own.

       

       

      When Greg has taught the fundamentals of the correct alignment within a posture, then he moves on to bring you into the finished posture.

       

       

      Greg teaches a whole range of postures during his classes, and some of the postures are challenging, while others are more gentle, and some are restorative and very relaxing.

       

       

      As part of this Iyengar yoga week retreat, Dave will take the group out on a guided hike into the Burren hills or by the sea each day.

       

      This is a great way to get to see some special places in the Burren well away from the usual tourist places.

       

      There is a range of walks from hill climbs to walks by the sea to walks in the forest, and Dave uses his knowledge of the area to bring you to some of the most special places.

       

      During June, one of the wild flowers which is synonymous with the Burren appears.. the Spring Gentian.

       

      Followed by lunch at one of the local restaurants or cafes which is a great way to sample the best of the locale cuisine in the Burren.

       

       

      After lunch there is time to chill out and relax at the centre, before the next Iyengar yoga class with Greg.

       

       

      Using support if necessary each pose is held for a long period, and with the attention to alignment each pose becomes a meditation. Iyengar Yoga promotes a feeling of being open, stretched, and grounded in the body.

       

      The yoga journey keeps on going…

      For me, yoga goes beyond the physical practice. I see it as a tool for transformation: physical transformation, and also inner transformation.

      I attempt to bring to my yoga classes an awareness of the deeper reasons for practising yoga, to overcome physical and mental blockages, and to become more alive, awake and aware in everything we do, in yoga practice and in life.

      Each evening Paddi who used to run Seventh Heaven restaurant for over 12 years, prepares a vegetarian dinner and many people have said they have not eaten vegetarian food as good as this at any restaurant.

       

       

      The Burren is an amazing place to come to on a yoga retreat, and the stillness and tranquility of the setting is inspiring…. and also infectious in helping to establish that peace of mind inside.
