Description of Mindfulness & Vinyasa yoga retreat

Feel energised and tune inwards with Dara

Who is this Mindfulness & Vinyasa yoga week retreat is suitable for

This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as advanced people.

The Burren is a spectacular place to go for hill walks and the scenery is stunning.

Each day we will explore another beautiful location on our guided outings.

An ideal week in September to let go of the stresses and strains of everyday life and to let go into a very peaceful and tranquil environment with a gifted teacher and share some time with like minded people.

This retreat will focus on bringing your awareness into the present. Getting in touch with your physical body, the breath and observing the thoughts within the present moment.

Dara gives each person very good individual attention, and her adjustments and guidance are very gentle and subtle.

Dara will encourage and guide you with her soft Aussie accent, always inviting you to follow her suggestions… or to chose to listen to your own intuition.

Her guidance will help you to get deeper into your own body and release tension and get ready to feel renewed, energized and feel more clarity.

Dara has lovely soft energies, and is fully alive within the present moment. She makes everybody feel instantly at ease, and brings a lightness and enjoyment into the whole retreat.

Each morning will begin with a Mindfulness meditation class. Dara will explain the practice and also help each person to find a comfortable sitting position. She will use the meditation cushions and props to adjust your sitting position, so that you will be able to go more deeply inwards.

After the Mindfulness meditation practice, Dara will continue with some pranayama (breathing practices), leading into the morning Vinyasa yoga class. Vinyasa flow Yoga involves coordinating the breath with the flowing movements so there will be a focus on the breath during the Vinyasa yoga classes.

The morning vinyasa yoga classes will be dynamic and very good for improving flexibility and removing energy blocks helping you feel fully alive during the rest of the day.

These morning yoga classes will give you a firm foundation and stability in your body. The standing sequences will increase tone and strength in the body, while seated postures will bring more flexibility to the hips and in the spine.

Towards the end of each class, there will also be more grounding postures to help you feel fully within the present moment.

As the week progresses, the body and mind will become more balanced. It is guaranteed to leave you feeling toned, stretched, rejuvenated, refreshed and full of energy on all levels.

The morning and evening meditation practice will be breath focussed meditation. One sits in a comfortable meditation postures and rests one’s awareness on the breath flowing through the nostrils. With practice and proper guidance, one gradually learns how to observe the thoughts rather than being caught up in them. And one settles into a calmer peaceful more tranquil state.

Beginners will be introduced gradually to meditation, which will deepen and lengthen in practice over the week and those wanting to just sit for longer periods will be allowed the space.

Each day after breakfast, Dave will lead the group on a guided outing and we will either do a hill walk in the Burren hills or a walk by the sea. All these activities are optional.

These guided outings are an important part of each eco yoga retreat and it is a lovely way to see some special places in the Burren well away from the usual tourist places.

The Burren wild flowers are beautiful to see.

The secret forest has been described by one visitor as the type of place that fairies and elves live, and when they heard us coming they hid out of sight, but did not have time to take away their fairy veils and magic feelings which fill the air.

During our guided outings we stop off for lunch at one of the best local restaurants or cafes. One favourite is the Ballyvaughan tea rooms where Stephen Spielberg flew in especially to order the cheese cake.

The Burren is famous for it’s wild flowers, and it is lovely to see wild orchids during the months from May to September.

Most people come on their own so it’s a great way to connect with like-minded people and also make new friends.

Depending on the weather we also go on the boat trip to see the Cliffs of Moher from the sea. This is the most spectacular way to see the Cliffs of Moher!

And also if we get the right weather conditions we sometimes practice yoga on the Burren pavement rock, overlooking the Atlantic ocean.

Many people have said that the memory of these classes will stay with them for their whole lives.

Each Yoga class will be designed so that you can slowly build up your yoga practice with each person practising at their own level.

Every second afternoon we have a yoga class from 5:00 – 6:30 pm.

This will be a slow relaxing restorative yoga class.

The restorative class will have more gentle and relaxing postures designed to loosen up the body and to help to let go and relax.

Some of the postures you will decide yourself how gentle or how deeply you would like to go into the stretch.

The restorative yoga is a real gift to yourself to truly let go.

And we will also explore some deep yin style restorative postures.

A restorative yoga practice can rest your body deeply; stretch your muscles (stretch connective tissue) lower your heart rate and blood pressure, and relax your nervous system, moving you into a peaceful state of deep relaxation.

Concluding with a yoga nidra deep relaxation.

Gearoid the food genius will be feeding us amazing vegetarian food and if you have ever wondered what it would be like to be on a weekend veggie retreat rest assured you will be pleasantly surprised and may even get hooked! He has a brilliant reputation for preparing vegetarian food to the highest standard.

Dara has many years now of experience teaching people from different backgrounds, age and level.

She teaches regular classes in Dublin city, teaches workshops and retreats in Ireland.

Each evening Gearoid the cook who used to work in a Hare Krishna restaurant in New York, will prepare “with love” a delicious vegetarian dinner and many people have said they have not eaten vegetarian food as good as this at any restaurant.

If this is your first time to come to Burren Yoga, please be reassured you will not go hungry…. just read the reviews 😉

The social aspect of these retreats where you meet like-minded people is a great fun element of the retreat.

Each person is cared for on an individual basis, and each person works at their own level and no comparisons are made between anybody.

By the end of the retreat you will be feeling lighter, more open in your body and your mind, and fully refreshed to bring this new energy and new practices into your everyday life.
