    • Instructor Bio Dave Brocklebank

      Dave Brocklebank began meditating in 1978 and began practising Yoga in 1989 with the Galway school of Yoga and Meditation which is Satyananda based.

      He has been teaching since 1999 and continues to keep his teacher training up to date each year.

      He also completed a hatha flow yoga teacher training and also a yoga for pregnancy teacher training as well as many more courses over the years.

      He is very clear in his teaching and introduces the practices in an accessible way integrating breath awareness with the physical practices so that one is training one’s awareness while also getting the physical benefits of the postures.

      He is a very clear teacher of meditation with over 30 years of dedicated practice.

      Dave designed and built this beautiful purpose designed yoga centre in 1999 with the view to provide an ideal environment for people to learn and deepen their practice of yoga and meditation in a quality and enjoyable way.

      Description of November Satyananda Yoga retreat

      Let go and relax with Dave



      This Satyananda yoga and meditation retreat weekend is a great escape from your usual everyday life to stay in a very relaxing and energising comfortable yoga centre and learn practices to let go of thoughts, improve your breathing and posture, learn how to meditate and also to become familiar with yoga postures which you can practice on our own after the retreat.

      10% of the proceeds of this course will be donated to charity

      This retreat works with your awareness, and includes asana classes which start gently and build up over the weekend to include Salutation to the Sun.



      Learn how to meditation and deepen your practice

      The retreat also includes meditation classes and Yoga Nidra deep relaxation.

      This course is for people who prefer a more traditional approach to yoga and a more gentle approach than Ashtanga.

      There will be plenty of outdoor activities in the Burren and surrounding areas.



      And the usual amazing vegetarian meals with Paddi the chef.



      Who is the course suitable for

      This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as advanced people.

      It is suitable for those who prefer a more traditional approach to yoga and a more gentle approach than Ashtanga.



      Let go of Stress with relaxing but energising yoga

      Dave’s classes begin with very gentle loosening up postures which help prepare the body for the stronger postures which are introduced after a number of months.

      He takes care that each person understands each posture and gives advice on adapting the posture to suit your own level and where you are at in this present moment.



      Dave introduces Pranayama right from day one, and you will be shown how to use different parts of the lungs for the breathing practices and also how to incorporate awareness of the breath into one’s yoga practice.

      The breath is one of the most important keys to bringing your awareness in wards, to to get in touch with your more subtle inner self.

      A large emphasis is placed on the awareness of the practitioner rather than their physical ability.



      Some of the postures are stronger, and help with the alignment of the body.

      Dave gives clear guidelines on each posture so that everyone can understand the alignment of the posture and also the focus of one’s awareness while in the posture.

      On Saturday Grainne will lead the group on a guided walk in one of the special locations in the Burren.  Sometimes we climb one of the hills, or possibly a walk in one of the forests or sometimes we go for a walk along Fanore beach and out onto the headland which leads to Black Head light house.

      There are many places to choose from to go on our outings, so Dave usually uses his local knowledge and his experience of predicting the weather and will pick out the best location based on the interests of the group and what the weather will be like.



      While we are on our guided outing we will stop off for lunch at one of the best cafes or restaurants in the area.



      As well as the best of yoga and meditation instructors, and the best locations for our guided outings, you are always guaranteed the best of food on the eco yoga retreats at Burren Yoga.

      In Dave’s classes, each person works within their own limitations, and there are no caparisons made between people.

      As each person becomes more familiar with the postures, gradually their body opens up

      Dave also gives individual guidance when it can be of benefit.



      His experience with Iyengar and Astanga yoga bring a detailed approach to correct alignment of the body in order to assume the posture while respecting the limits of one’s body.

      This weekend will also include an introduction to mindful breath awareness focussed meditation, and a deepening of the practice for those who practice already.



      The energies at the yoga centre are very tranquil and also highly charged by all the yoga and meditation practice, and this is the best environment in which to learn or deepen your practice.

      Take away with you practices you can continue at home

      Dave aims to teach you a core amount of physical postures, breathing techniques and meditation which you will be able to practice on your own each day after you complete the weekend.



      He also has CD’s available on his phyiscal yoga classes, the Yoga Nidra deep relaxation and also a Meditation CD which will help you to kick start doing these practices on your own when you return home after the retreat.
