Description of October Bank Holiday Vinyasa yoga and meditation retreat
Feel energised and tune inwards with Kathryn
Who is this long weekend long Vinyasa yoga retreat suitable for
This October Bank Holiday yoga retreat is suitable for complete beginners as well as advanced people.
An ideal long weekend on the Bank holiday in October to let go of the stresses and strains of everyday life and to let go into a very peaceful and tranquil environment with a gifted teacher and share some time with like minded people.
This October Bank Holiday retreat will focus on bringing your awareness into the present. Getting in touch with your physical body, the breath and observing the thoughts within the present moment.
Each Yoga class will be a learning process for you to learn more about anatomy and learn a firm foundation on yoga principles as you move into each posture with awareness. Get deeper into your own body and release tension and get ready to feel renewed, energized and feel more clarity.
Each morning will begin with pranayama (breathing practices) – followed by the morning Vinyasa yoga class. Yoga is a breathing practice so there will be a focus on the breath during the vinyasa yoga classes.
The morning vinyasa yoga classes will be dynamic and very good for improving flexibility and removing energy blocks helping you feel fully alive during the rest of the day.
These morning yoga classes will give you a firm foundation and stability in your body. The standing sequences will increase tone and strength in the body, while seated postures will bring more flexibility to the hips and in the spine.
Towards the end of each class, there will also be more grounding postures to help you feel fully within the present moment.
October Bank Holiday retreat
As the long weekend progresses, the body and mind will become more balanced. It is guaranteed to leave you feeling toned, stretched, rejuvenated, refreshed and full of energy on all levels.
The morning meditation practice will be breath focussed meditation. One sits in a comfortable meditation postures and rests one’s awareness on the breath flowing through the nostrils. With practice and proper guidance, one gradually learns how to observe the thoughts rather than being caught up in them. And one settles into a calmer peaceful more tranquil state.
As the October Bank Holiday progresses, Kathryn will then guide you into a loving kindness practice or Metta!
We will look at Buddhist terms such as Shamantha and Vipassana – what it means to really let go and most of all, how to practice every day to quieten that monkey mind! Each day on our retreat we will be reflecting in our meditation and using certain tools to help bring more awareness into our lives. We will practice loving kindness (Metta) meditation throughout the Retreat.
Beginners will be introduced gradually to meditation, which will deepen and lengthen in practice over the long weekend and those wanting to just sit for longer periods will be allowed the space.
Each day after breakfast, Dave will lead the group on a guided outing and we will either do a hill walk in the Burren hills or a walk by the sea. All these activities are optional.
These guided outings are an important part of each eco yoga retreat and it is a lovely way to see some special places in the Burren well away from the usual tourist places.
The secret forest has been described by one visitor as the type of place that fairies and elves live, and when they heard us coming they hid out of sight, but did not have time to take away their fairy veils and magic feelings which fill the air.
During our guided outing we stop off for lunch at one of the best local restaurants or cafes. One favourite is the Ballyvaughan tea rooms where Stephen Spielberg flew in especially to order the cheese cake.
The Burren is famous for it’s unique variety of wild flowers and it is lovely each year to see old friends popping up.
Most people come on their own so it’s a great way to connect with like-minded people and also make new buddies.
Depending on our group, one one or more days we will practice the Full Moon Yoga Sequence ‘Chandra Krama’. The main focus will be on the hips and spine – it is a therapeutic sequence for the lower back, hips and sacrum. Concluding with meditation.
This is a great sequence for those who drive a lot, sit at desks regularly or feel pretty stiff in the lower back and sacrum. You will come away from this sequence feeling more open and renewed.
Depending on the preferences of the group we may visit the Burren National Park or a wide range of other activities and places to see.
These outings are great fun, and a lovely way to get to know the other course participants on the retreat
Each Yoga class will be designed so that you can slowly build up your yoga practice with each person practising at their own level.
Every second afternoon we have a yoga class from 5:00 – 6:30 pm.
These will usually be a slow relaxing restorative yoga class where we will explore some deep yin style restorative postures.
A restorative yoga practice can rest your body deeply; stretch your muscles (stretch connective tissue) lower your heart rate and blood pressure, and relax your nervous system, moving you into a peaceful state of deep relaxation. Concluding with a meditation.
Paddi the food genius will be feeding us amazing vegetarian food and if you have ever wondered what it would be like to be on a long weekend veggie retreat rest assured you will be pleasantly surprised and may even get hooked! She has a brilliant reputation for preparing vegetarian food to the highest standard.
Kathryn has many years now of experience teaching people from different backgrounds, age and level.
She teaches regular classes in Cork city, teaches workshops and retreats in Ireland.
Each evening Paddi the cook who has been preparing amazing vegetarian food at Burren Yoga for over 12 years will prepare a delicious vegetarian dinner.
If this is your first time to come to Burren Yoga, please be reassured you will not go hungry…. just read the reviews 😉
The social aspect of these retreats where you meet like-minded people is a great fun element of the retreat.
Each person is cared for on an individual basis, and each person works at their own level and no comparisons are made between anybody.
By the end of the October Bank Holiday retreat you will be feeling lighter, more open in your body and your mind, and fully refreshed to bring this new energy and new practices into your everyday life.
