Description of September 2018 Hatha yoga retreat

Be inspired by Tommy, let go, and ‘just be’

Tommy is from Italy originally and now lives full time and teaches yoga and meditation in Ireland.

He was initially drawn to meditation and the spiritual life. He spent 7 years as a monk in Florence.

Tommy’s own yoga practice began with meditation and his yoga classes naturally will lead your mind to become quiet and lead you into meditation.

Tommy teaches the yoga poses while bringing awareness to the breath allowing beginners to focus more on the physical posture, while more experienced practitioners will be able to use the breath to go deeper into the practice.

When Tommy began practicing yoga he felt inspired as he felt it was a complete way of life which included yoga poses, breath work, moral code, cleansing techniques, awareness of diet, moral code and meditation. A complete way of life that leads towards letting go and living in the present moment with love and appreciation.

This retreat weekend will provide a refreshing, energising yet deeply relaxing space through enjoyable hatha yoga practice utilising the breath and designed to bring us further on our own journey.

Tommy is working from a place where the real focus is not the actual posture, but rather the journey that ensues as a result of focussing on the posture…. and the breath… and the awareness, and the effects this has on our whole being bringing us to a more Zen state of being.

Some of the postures are quite gentle and encourage us to ‘let go’ of trying too hard physically, and to tune inwards to get in touch with how we are feeling right now in this present moment.

I love Tommy’s classes which are a lovely combination of flexibility, mindfulness, and breathing techniques. He brings in humour and lightheartedness to keep things fun.

      Laura Pittoni, Italy

The Yoga practice will be gently invigorating and energising, sometimes working with Hatha yoga techniques, and also using alignment and feeling into our experience.

Drawing on his own experience of Hatha yoga, the breath, and inner energies, Tommy’s Hatha yoga classes work on many layers of our being to help calm the mind and bring us into an awareness and a joy of the present moment.

He readily adapts the practice to the individual, so that everyone can benefit from the experience.

This weekend retreat is suitable for complete beginners as well as regular Yoga practitioners. It is suitable for all ages.

Tommy is a firm believer that “Yoga is for everybody…. regardless of age or ability and that everybody is welcome in his classes”

Each of Tommy’s classes are well balanced, and there is a good variety of all forms of postures both gentle and invigorating.

As usual on our Yoga Retreats, we have a guided outing on Saturday which will consist of either a hill climb or a walk by the sea.

These walks are a lovely way to be brought to one of the special places in the Burren and to enjoy the scenery and to have fun and chat to the other like-minded retreat participants and just to hang out with Tommy.

Followed by lunch at one of the local restaurants or cafes which is a great way to sample the best of the locale cuisine in the Burren.

Some of the classes are restorative and involve some gentle releasing postures.

We will also practice supported restorative postures that facilitate deep , yet gentle release, and renewal on many levels.

These restorative yoga classes are great for ‘letting go’, and bring a deeply relaxed and nourishing feeling to all levels of our being.

Tommy also teaches Relaxation which is an ancient practice which guides us into a very deep state of relaxation and the whole process is very powerful for relaxation and transformation on all levels.

This weekend will be an opportunity to step out of the busy- ness of daily life in order to re connect with ourselves and Nurture Body, mind and spirit with Yoga postures, Pranayama and meditation.

Tommy ensures that each person finds a comfortable sitting posture, and uses various props to help find more comfort and ease with the practice.

The meditation is introduced in a very easy way for compete beginners, and through practicing twice each day, each participant becomes more comfortable with the practice so that they can continue at home after the retreat.

On Friday evening and Saturday evening Gearoid the cook who used to work in a Hare Krishna restaurant in New York, will prepare “with love” a delicious vegetarian dinner and many people have said they have not eaten vegetarian food as good as this at any restaurant.

Gearoid’s food has to be experienced to be believed 😉

Tommy found that the daily meditation helped the restless mind to calm down and relax. Over time this actually changed his approach to life and he found that he was better able to ‘let go’ and simply ‘be’ in the present moment.

His classes will help teach you some of these practices so you can continue on your own at home after the retreat. They key is to try to do between a 10 and 15 minute daily practice yourself when you go back home.

On this weekend Tommy will also teach ‘breath focussed awareness’ meditation, and his teaching will be suitable for complete beginners as well as regular practitioners. If you have never practiced before, by the end of the weekend you will have a range of different practices that you can take home with you in order to continue with your own daily practice…. and if you are new to self-practice, the advice is to start with 10 minutes each day.

Yoga is for everybody! … no matter what your age or your level of fitness.
