      Yoga Nidra training
This Yoga Nidra training course was designed by Uma Dinsmore-Tuli and her husband Nirlipta.

      Uma’s text follows;

We designed this course because we believe Yoga Nidra to be the most powerful of all yoga techniques and we wanted to share its benefits widely.

There are quite a number of different approaches to the techniques, and we felt it was about time that yoga teachers and serious yoga practitioners could engage in a yoga nidra training that gave them an opportunity to explore all aspects of approaches to yoga nidra.

There is a wealth of excellent work encompassed by the practice of yoga nidra, and we fully honour Swami Satyananda’s uncovering of this ancient tantric technique, and his insightful crucial innovations which made this ancient Indian technique more accessible to Westerners and for his tireless work in bringing this technique into use in the 20th century.

Following Swami Satyananda’s work in bringing Yoga Nidra to the western world, over the past 40 years other great teachers have worked with the practice of Yoga Nidra and this course includes a sustained examination of these other approaches and developments to the practice.

Swami Satyananda’s greatest (of many) contributions to the practice of yoga was to set out a clear and effective system for using yoga nidra, which has become, like a fountainhead, a source of inspiration and refreshment to many different practitioners and teachers of yoga throughout the world.

This course explores all these approaches, and examines their relative therapeutic benefits, providing course participants with a broad understanding of yoga nidra, and developing each teacher’s own creative capacity to respond to the needs of their students, themselves and their clients with sensitivity and awareness.
Pre Course Work; Before 1st weekend
This is a training course intended to deepen understanding of Yoga Nidra at a profound level.

      holidays for single women

On acceptance onto the course, there are some pre-course assignments which you will be expected to email to Uma at least 1 month before the course start date.

There will also be written assignments to complete during the course, and also in the period between the first 3 day training, and the second 3 day training.

The foundation for the course is personal daily practice with Yoga Nidra.

It is vital that any person considering attending this course prepares for the first weekend by listening to the required listening as frequently as they are able for at least one month before arrival on the course.

Discussions and references to this required listening will be made during the first weekend and to support your learning and growth it is necessary for you to have engaged with yoga nidra on a daily basis for as long as you are able before coming on the course.

This listening is likely to be a delightful and very nourishing experience for you, not just ‘homework’.

Full learning support materials and required listening tracks are provided by the tutors through the student support website here:

      Yoga Nidra training support

Once you have been accepted for the course you will be sent a password so that you can access the Yoga Nidra tracks and start listening!

The course has two compulsory set texts, the first is Swami Satyananda’s Yoga Nidra, and the second is Richard Miller’s Yoga Nidra: A Meditative Practice for Deep Relaxation and Healing.

Course participants are required to have read both these books before the course begins. The course rests equally upon these two texts, and upon the new and comprehensive manual which we have prepared especially for the course and which contains abundant diverse resources including articles and research material from a variety of other sources too.

Before the first weekend meeting, all students should listen at least once to all of the six yoga nidra audio recordings provided on CD or as MP3 /downloads and sent to each student as part of the course registration documents.

In preparation for the course, students should write very brief review notes on each of the recommended yoga nidra tracks listened to (pro-formas provided in course registration documents).

Before the first weekend, students select two of the six recommended recordings and write a detailed comparative analysis of their content, timing, language, structure and delivery. Pro-formas for these analyses are provided in the course manual. Discussion of these comparisons occurs during the first and second weekends.
      Course Work; Before 2nd weekend
First yoga nidra script development project:
      • Write a draft script for a fifteen minute yoga nidra which you are intending to use for yourself, or with your students or clients. Email the script to the tutor for feedback and suggestions on the draft.
      • Practice the tutor-approved draft on family, friends, students, self or clients.
      • Get feedback from those receiving the yoga nidra (pro-form as supplied in course manual).
      • Refine the script, incorporating feedback from recipients.
      • After the end of the course Record the script and submit to course tutors for appraisal and feedback.

Second (or further development of first) yoga nidra script delivery project:
      • Either choose to deliver the first yoga nidra script to the course group, for appraisal and feedback by colleagues and tutors, or:
      • Develop a second fifteen minute yoga nidra script in consultation with course tutors, and deliver that script to the course group during the second weekend, for appraisal and feedback by colleagues and tutors.

Case study (to be completed by the time of the final meeting):
A case study, conducted over four sessions of yoga nidra, based on the reactions of either an individual client (or self, if taking the non-teacher route) or a class receiving the yoga nidra.

Case study can utilize the scripts developed during the course, or be based on other scripts developed by the student.

Case study to include the following documents (pro-formas provided in course manual):
      • statement of intent/aim of the yoga nidra
      • summary script of the yoga nidra/s delivered over 4 weeks
      • feedback from students/clients (or self-reflection for the non-teaching route).
      • Self-evaluation, exploring the outcome of the yoga nidra case study, considering positive experiences and areas for future development.

      womens yoga meditation Retreat Ireland

NB – Non practitioner/non-teacher route For those intending to do this course primarily for their own self-development and deepening of understanding of the practice of yoga nidra there is no requirement to deliver scripts to the course yoga nidra, but a personal record of regular practice is to be submitted instead.
      The course requires great commitment
The course is non-denominational in terms of yoga schools, seeking to offer the best that all forms of yoga have to offer: this is a hallmark of Yogacampus trainings, which is why we enjoy to offer this course within the Yogacampus framework.

The course demands great commitment and regular practice from students, and includes high levels of exploratory, comparative and investigative work in yoga nidra and its effects. The hypnotic aspects of yoga nidra are well understood by Nirlipta from his perspective as a clinical hypnotherapist and yoga teacher, so he is well placed to guide student explorations of this dimension of the practice.

In addition to Uma’s doctoral level skills in communications, and her experience as an author of four books, which enables her to offer very detailed technical guidance on the best use of language for effective yoga nidra, including topics such as grammar, metaphor, imagery and syntax.

The understandings about yoga nidra which come through study of these adjunct healing disciplines of hypnotherapy and psychology provide very valuable perspectives for gaining a profound understanding of what yoga nidra can be and how it works.
