Benefitting local communities
When Dave founded the yoga centre in 1999, he had the vision to build and run the centre in an environmentally friendly way, and to ensure that it was run in a sensitive and sustainable way that protects the fragile Burren area and also supports the local community both in financial ways and by facilitating community interaction.
As part of the retreats, Dave takes the group out on guided trips to explore the Burren and to do outdoor activities.
More information about this can be seen at The Burren Outdoor Activities
Some of the places we visit include
- The Burren Perfumery
- The Aillwee caves
- The Cliffs of Moher
- The Doolin cave
We also go on boat trips, and visit local craft shops, farmer’s markets and also stop off for lunch in one of the local cafes, tea rooms or pubs.
This helps support these other local businesses and is very important to the area as we run our retreats all year round, and many of them reply on our custom especially during the winter months.
We don’t encourage alcohol during our courses as we are working to broaden our awareness.
However we do visit varous pubs in order to sample the local traditional music and dance, and also to experience the atmosphere and social interaction in these traditional rural pubs.
Some of the pubs we visit for music include
- Green’s pub in Kinvara
- Connolly’s pub in Kinvara
- Keoghes pub in Kinvara
- The Pier Head in Kinvara
- Linnane’s in New Quay
A few of the pubs also offer outstanding meals and we go there on our daily outings for lunch and these include
- Linnane’s Lobster Bar
- Monks pub in Ballyvaughan
- Keoghes pub in Kinvara
- Cassidy’s pub in Carron
