Ecotourism Policy
Our Ethos
The ethos of the Burren Yoga and Meditation Centre is to provide the best quality yoga and meditation teaching within a responsible Ecotourism holiday retreat package in The Burren where we spend time in Nature and the whole package follows the principles of conservation of the environment.
Our Policy can be seen at Burren Yoga Environmental policy.
Our EcoTourism Policy
Our Eco Yoga Retreats aim to awaken a love for Nature, and an appreciation of the effects of spending time in The Burren and by the sea.
Our daily guided outings are filled with adventure, wild flowers, Burren spectacular scenery, ancient sites, and many places to visit within the Geopark of The Burren.
Our retreats are limited to small numbers and are run in an environmentally sensitive and sustainable way.
Environmental protection throughout the complete lifecycle of our business
We have implemented a complete strategy to protect the environment throughout the complete lifecycle of our business;
- starting with the concept of the whole business before we even setup the centre in 1999
- the nature of how we designed the buildings
- how we run all aspects of our business
- right through to continually monitoring and upgrading our standards and raising the awareness of our staff and guests through education and exposure to the principles of conservation.
Environmentally Sustainable Practices
Our buildings are timber framed with large ceiling to floor windows with spectacular views over the Burren hills to reduce our energy needs and to provide a lovely natural uplifting environment.
We ensure that we keep our retreats to small numbers and that we take care to respect the Burren Code and the Leave No Trace codes while we are out on our guided outings.
Our food is often raved about in reviews and is all vegetarian and cooked by Paddi who used to run Seventh Heaven restaurant in Galway city for over 12 years. Paddi groiws much of the organic vegitables herself, and we source the rest direct from organic growers in the local area.
Environmental Impact Management Plan
As a result of careful design and also the green nature of the whole business, the carbon footprint of Burren Yoga is extremely low.
However we still strive to reduce this even further and details can be seen at
Environmental Impact Management Plan
Natural Area Focus
We have guided outings into the Burren hills and by the sea and there is a lovely feeling of enjoyment and fun on all our outings.

Interpretation and Education
Dave is passionate about The Burren and spending time in Nature. His enthusiasm and love for the Burren are inspiring and you will see special places you may not otherwise come across.
Sometimesw we get the chance to meditate at the cave where Saint Colman spent 7 years in retreat back in the 8th Century.
Contributing to Conservation
We are involved in conservation for many years with litter cleanups and also raising the awareness of our visitors how each of us can do our bit to protect and also help cleanup the environment.
Membership forms for BurrenBeo are available so you can also contribute to Conservation if you feel so inclined.
We have planted many native trees on the grounds of the centre, and look after them to ensure that they nurture and grow.
Benefiting Local Communities
We bring our visitors to sample the best of local food and to see craft shops and other attractions which helps the local economy.
All our food is vegetarian and we try to use as much organic vegetables as possible. Paddi our cook grows most of the organic vegetables herself, and the rest is also grown locally and bought directly from the growers.
Visitor Satisfaction
Dave runs each of the retreats himself and has hand picked all the teachers and staff to ensure the highest standards are maintained throughout all aspects of the retreat experience.
