Holiday Ireland

Ireland is a small green beautiful island with very beautiful scenery and friendly people.

There are 4 million people in Ireland, but over 1 million live in Dublin city, and another million within 50 miles of Dublin.

To experience the true rural countryside of Ireland with it’s easy going pace of life and the most beautiful scenery, one needs to visit the more quieter and unspoilt west coast of Ireland which can be like stepping back in time 40 years ago.

County Clare

One of the most beautiful counties on the west coast of Ireland is County Clare which has a rolling landscape of hills and small mountains, stone walls, green fields and is situated on the west coast of Ireland beside the Atlantic ocean.

The Burren

The Burren is a unique landscape within County Clare which consists of spectacular shaped limestone hills which plunge down into the Atlantic.

The Burren is about 30 miles long and 15 miles wide and is largely uninhabited with a few villages and rural cottages dotted around this unspoilt landscape.

One of the things that draws visitors back time and time again to The Burren is the silence and unspoilt beauty of the area.

There is very little organised tourism in this area so the best way to see this unique location of Ireland is to choose a holiday which includes some guided trips into some of the lesser known most beautiful parts of The Burren.

Guide to The Burren

Here at the Burren Yoga and Meditation Centre, we start each day with yoga and meditation, followed by a good breakfast.

After this you will be taken out by the owner and manager Dave Brocklebank to one of the special locations to either climb one of the hills, walk by the sea or to partake in one of the outdoor activities that Dave has lined up for the day.

The yoga retreat holidays are suitable for complete beginners to regular practitioners, and Dave has handpicked only the best of yoga and meditation teachers to instruct the classes.

The complete package of yoga and meditation classes, delicious vegetarian meals, nice accommodation in the beautiful yoga centre and daily guided outings into The Burren is unlike any other Ireland package holiday.

The groups have a maximum of 15 people, and most people come on their own.

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and relaxed.

Taking time out in Nature is like food for the soul, and this time spent in Nature is a very important part of all our courses.

Holidays in Ireland

These retreat holidays are a lovely way to get away on your own, but to partake in the daily organised outings and to have one of the best holidays in Ireland.

The places you will be taken to are often ‘off the beaten track’ and any of the cafes or seafood places that Dave will take you to are sure to be the best in the area. He knows the owners of all the cafes and he makes sure that the group are given the best seats with the nicest views and the whole retreat package flows along with seamless organisation and ease.

Ireland Tourism

Tourism in Ireland often consists of visits to cities and then tour bus outings through the spectacular scenery. This is a nice way to get an overview of the landscape and scenery of Ireland, but very often one misses out that very special feeling of ‘timelessness’ and also the ‘friendliness of the people’ as one zooms through this restful country.

On the west coast of Ireland in The Burren there is very little organised tourism. There are many little cafes and some very good quality places to eat when one knows how to find them and also knows the places to avoid.

Most of the people on the courses at the Burren Yoga and Meditation Centre are Irish and this helps with an easy going friendly atmosphere and it is a great opportunity to spend time getting to know the other people on the course.

Hotels Clare

There are a few hotels in County Clare and also B&B’s in many of the villages.

However the real beauty of The Burren is often hidden and off the beaten track, so it is well worth having a guide who will bring you to some of the most beautiful parts and also who will explain about some of the history and geology of the area.

The Cliffs of Moher

There are some beautiful walks in the Burren hills and by the sea, and also some lovely places to visit such as the Ailwee caves and many more places including the Cliffs of Moher.

Many tour buses go to the Cliffs of Moher and it can be quite a shock to see so many people all in one location especially after one is used to walking the hills and enjoying the silence and the unspoilt beauty of the The Burren.

From a distance the Cliffs of Moher don’t look too high.

And yes, they are people standing on the overhand on the cliffs of Moher.

In order to see the Cliffs of Moher without rubbing shoulders with many tourists, sometimes we take a boat trip from Doolin and we see the Cliffs of Moher from the sea.

One can really appreciate the height of the Cliffs when looking up at them from the sea, and also to appreciate and see much more clearly all the bird life which is dotted along the Cliffs of Moher and also along the shoreline close to the water’s edge.

Burren Hotels

There are a few nice hotels in the Burren but one of the main differences is that at the Burren Yoga and Meditation Centre you will have lovely vegetarian meals cooked by Paddi the chef who used to run Seventh Heaven restaurant in Galway city for over 12 years and also spend your time getting to know the otehrs on the course all within a genuine yogic environment.

Most people come here on their own, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Through the daily activities and also helping out in the kitchen at the yoga centre, one easily gets to know the others on these yoga retreat holidays.

Accommodation in County Clare

The accommodation at the Burren Yoga Centre is in either shared rooms or single rooms.

All the bedrooms are quite small, but the mattresses are hotel quality and all the bed linen and towels are Egyptian Cotton of the highest standards.

There are only 3 single rooms and 2 double rooms, so it is well worth booking well in advance if one is looking for a single room.

Go Ireland

And as they say once you Go Ireland…. you may never go back 😉

There are many stories of people driving through The Burren who stop to take a few photos and when they begin to walk on this magical limestone pavement…. they fall in love with the place, and some have decided to ‘up sticks’ and are now living in The Burren.

Activity Holidays

Some of our yoga courses are very gentle and suitable for everybody either fit or unfit, and suitable for complete beginners of all ages.

Some of the courses are more dynamic and suitable for either younger people or those who are more fit and used to physical exercise or who are practicing yoga already.

So it is a good idea to read the description of the course you would like to attend, to check to see what form of yoga is being taught on that holiday retreat.

All enquiries welcome

Please do not hesitate to ask about our retreats and to get a good overview it is worth watching at least 1 of our 6 minute videos at Short Videos about Holidays at Burren Yoga Centre Ireland

We look forward to seeing you here soon, on one of our retreat holidays.

Best Wishes,
Dave
